Reduce Fw190 severe threshold

It balance itself well while losing half wing. Not severe at all, as many other planes are not severed when losing wing tip

This comes from it’s speed, and likely even mouse-aim control.

I’ve quite often got 190s back to base after being really blown apart, and often I’m even belly landing to avoid having the gear cause drag, or even needing to slow down, knowing that if I do slow it down, it’ll drop out of the sky.

Severe damage is defined as ([Development] Testing out the Severe Damage mechanic - News - War Thunder):

  1. Total loss of engines
  2. Total loss of horizontal stabilizer
  3. Loss of over 50% of wing area
  4. Loss of all control surfaces or the means to control them.

Reasoning:

All damage that significantly reduces the performance characteristics of an aircraft and can be formalized falls into the category of severe damage. Inflicting this damage means that you have most likely damaged the enemy to the point where their combat effectiveness is critically reduced. The enemy can still fight on, but their effectiveness depends on their skills, aircraft model, control method and the nature of the damage.

Total kill is:

  1. Pilot is dead
  2. Tail is cut off
  3. “Plane is burnt down” (usually means pilot is dead).

If anything, we need to increase the definition of severe damage to be more generous with losing certain control surfaces and wing area.

Even with RB instructor, you’re not going to be effective dogfighting anyone with a healthy plane and brain with a missing wing.

Severe damage means: You got a chance at a hail mary last-ditch shot or to nurse your plane back to base to repair. It’s a replacement of being forced to eject after 15 seconds.

Now, there’s an area that severe damage needs adjusting to be more strict:
Damage to horizontal stabilizers.
Even without instructor and full-real controls, the impact of blackened horizontal stabs (still intact, not cut off) is negligible with a bit of trimming and adaptability.
It should require the actual separation of horizontal stabs (even partial - say, left side is there, right side is no longer there.). With total separation, it does make a significant impact at flight performance (although that may be due to the elevator flying off with it).

This should be severe damage, not just a crit

Indeed

And this is not clear: 50% of all or one side?

And talking about combat efficiency, what about lost wingtip or large area of black wing?

This one is the worst thing, no reason to add it. Should’ve always stayed in arcade

Nah I’ve landed a rudderless spit back to base from 4000m in sim. Mouse control is never the main thing, FM and DM matters.

Mouse control definitely makes it easier. I can still use full aeleron and merely look at a point and it will still try keep it level and keep trying to maintain.

I’ve done a few tailless landings in the corsair.

Could be the idea of being ready for the hit and actually responding quickly in the manner needed to keep it straight.
