Ray Tracing in War Thunder!

Global Illumination is my thing, this distinguish an aged standard of graphics from a modern one so good job.

I do however need to point out that the particle effect in WT is still underwhelming to a significant extend, especially smoke and dust coming from the tracks and exhaustion, I’m satisfied with its texture but here’s the thing: they do not participate in any lightings and shadows alike, pardon for my arbitrary language but it’s incredibly weird to see glowing dust on the dark side of my tanks, or bright white smoke from inside a dark building behind my exhaustion, where everything else is pitch black.

I know for a fact that particles can be very demanding in terms of performance, but I really feels like this is the last bit of puzzle to be rid of any significant artifact on WT’s graphics so please at least give us an option to choose rendering shadows and light for these particles, the same way it behaves like smoke grenade or smoke trail after vehicle getting destroyed.

Are there any real dates for getting the update onto the main server?

i know that gaijin is adding a new upscaling called TSR but will there be any updates to dlss to make it better? at the moment even on quality mode it looks pixely

I would love to use the fsr 3.1 in warthunder’s next update, but I’ve tested it in the dev server and its horrible. I used 1440p and quality mode and the game was a blurry mess. Is there a chance that you guys will make any AA work in this game, because right now I can’t use any AA because it makes my game blurry even in 1440p with ssaa x4.

I hope the issues with RT in cockpits is fixed, will be incredibly disappointing if it isn’t fixed.

It looks a little bit dark now. It’s as if the canopy isn’t transparent enough for light. Also, cockpit flood and instrument lights are too dim.

Spoiler

Yeah it’s like that now but in the last dev server it looked like it would keep adding RT to everything in the cockpit until it turned completely black and hard to see

I forgot to ask, how do night battles look now with raytracing?

Like dirt

Well, I hope Ray Tracing will eventually be polished, optimised and fleshed out…

As of now, with Ryzen 7 5800X and RTX 3060, my FPS went from 160 to <60 after enabling Ray Tracing; and even if I disable everything but occlusion to minimum, I can’t get past 80 FPS…

But that’s not the worst part; if it were consistent 70 FPS, it would be acceptable…

The worst part is that it’s extremely unstable; when I switch cameras or move my camera around, I get 1-3 second FPS drops down to 25-30 FPS along with lots of random stuttering! It makes using the tank sight nearly impossible.

So, for now, I’ll have to disable it… which is a shame.

I understand that such graphical improvement would come with a drop in performance, but I wasn’t expecting such an ENORMOUS hit, even for relatively powerful systems.

Sometimes it looks like it’s turning off and on.

Unique transparent wings in Warthunder.

that’s a bugged reflection not transparent

You get my point.

that I do

Im sorry to tell you but a 3060 is not a powerful system for raytracing, it can be good for a high quality presets without RayTracing. The best thing you can do is using DLSS

It will be fine for lower quality ray tracing settings at a lower resolution but it’s not suited to running all the different ray tracing options. It’s probably best suited to just shadows and GI

ye sure and Im not gonna lie the game even without raytracing looks very good

Why is my game suddenly running at less than half of the FPS it used to before the update with all of the new graphic settings turned off?

I use DX 11, so no ray tracing, i decreased reflection quality to as low as possible and even lowered down some old settings, but my game still runs at like 20-30fps, while it used to do so on well above 70-80.

It’s unplayable
