With the introduction of Ramped Carriers for the USSR for launching the Su-33. Can we get the British equivalent such as HMS Illustrious added into the circulation as well. Aircraft such as the Sea Harrier currently launch via a catapult, except, the Harrier is not catapult compatible and instead launches using a ramped carrier in the same manner as the Su-33.
Adding Ramped Carriers for aircraft such as the Iconic Sea Harrier would be such an incredible improvement to the immersion offered within War Thunder and would add a lot to the game.
Would you like to see more Ramped Carriers added to the game?
Or as a placeholder, Replace HMS Ark Royal in SB maps like Denmark with Kuznetsov, not under the Royal Navy flag, but at least the method of launching is historical
only issue is other naval aircraft that are not meant to fly off of such decks, some may not have a problem but a few will. but maybe have non compatible aircraft have an air spawn like land bases aircraft
I wish there could be some Air RB maps specifically designed for carrier-based aircraft to take off and engage in combat on aircraft carriers, similar to the Pacific War maps from World War II. Back when update 2.0 was first released, quite a few maps included carrier operations, such as Malta and Spain. However, carriers were removed from RB maps because some players complained they couldn’t handle carrier landings and takeoffs.
This makes me wonder: considering the amount of effort GAIJIN put into creating these carriers, isn’t it a waste not to use them in multiplayer games? I still remember the Baku carrier on the Spain map, equipped with very powerful AK-630 CIWS for air defense—it was incredibly cool. I don’t understand why Gaijin decided to remove them.
I don’t play navel, and not a lot of any of air modes. At the same time naval vessels are not my area of expertise, so take this with a grain of salt.
I am up for the idea of maybe adding another/replacing the British aircraft carries with the more modern ones which have a ramp, is issue that could arrive with it is that it would only really be the Harriers that would be able to effectively take off from them, since the flight deck is that much shorter than the HMS Ark Royal (R09).
From a quick look at Wikipedia, the length of the flight deck of HMS Invincible (R05) is 550 ft (168m), while the flight deck of HMS Ark Royal (R09) is 800 ft (224m).
The only aircraft that would really be affected by adding the ramped carriers would be the Buccaneers & Phantom FG.1. This is mostly just something to take into consideration.
Yeah, and too date, that is why ramped carriers have been excluded, because its easier to give them ahistorical catapult than to deal with some aircraft not being able to take off from certain carriers.
But at the same time. the Su-33 has just been added alongside a ramped carrier. So even if we are just talking about test flight for the Harriers and not in live game, it would be a lovely addition.
But in larger gamemodes like Sim, some maps could easily have 2 carriers on them, 1 ramped, 1 CATABAR
As long as they don’t address any worthwhile use to Carriers in other modes than ASB and test drives, i cannot consider it a good investment of the already sketchy resources Gaijin has. The Admiral Kuznetsov is a testament of how interesting additions to the game can be completely worthless if some other topics or variables are not considered along it. I’ll disagree this time.
Those are Harrier IIs with the larger wing and more powerful engines , and iirc, they are restricted on max take-off weight without a ramp. (but dont quote me on that last part)
But im pretty confident that Harrier Is like the Sea Harrier require a ramp for a Carrier Launch
During the Falklands Sea Harriers were prepared to operate from the cargo ship Atlantic Conveyor though they would be more limited in range and only really usable for QRA
Ah, yeah, that would do it. But at least in British service. SHar and Harrier were always launched from Ramped Carriers like HMS Hermes and HMS Illustrious and HMS Invincible
