To clarify the Ram II that USA tested at Aberdeen Proving grounds was not called the M4A5 even in the Aberdeen files it’s called Ram. (See below)
M4A5 was the paper name given to the Ram II’s USA ordered but cancelled they most likely would of received given the time frame Ram II “A”'s as per their order and maybe Ram II “B”'s (the tank in game is of the “B” model). However the tank that actually was tested was a late model as a part of the “Final” batch of production. (It could of been a “D” model (still late model) i’m not able to review my notes on this atm but i believe it was final) The ram tank was only test I believe post war.
USA cancelled their order prior to recieving a single vehicle of the model they ordered or similar models(early models) that they called M4A5. It’s a purely paper name historically.
Bug report on the name: https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/rRjHUKbxG2sb
USA also tested the Ram I prototype but it was called The Canadian M3 Medium Tank but looked vastly different from the production Ram I’s.
On the old forum it was pointed out fairly quickly after the announcement of the M4A5 which is now over 9 year ago. so hopefully, but the main thing that can be done is just make bug reports when something isn’t named correctly or isn’t historically accurate.
The fact the Ram has an M3 chassis instead of an M4 suggests the name “M4A5” was assigned before the US even knew what it was. It would never have been its real name if it had been adopted because it shared nothing with the rest of the M4 Sherman family.
Alternatively, it could just be a big misunderstanding that has been perpetuated in secondary sources, and M4A5 was actually the name for the Canadian-built Grizzlies (license-built M4 variants) if they had been taken into service, which replaced the Ram on the same Montreal assembly line in 1943. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly_I_cruiser
The ram II that was tested was a late model. Still not called M4A5 they called the early “A” model (and probably the “B” model but orders were cancelled I belive during “B” production)M4A5 if/when it was going to be used in american service but orders were cancelled before recieving or operating any. Which would of been the earlier models, so the model we have in game “B” is most likely accurate to a model they would have recieved if they didnt cancel the order.
The Ram II in the photo is a completely different model and not really a bug report as its also named differently.
If you’d want to discuss this more feel free to make a seperate post in the machinery of war section or dm me,as this post is about the Ram I. Since i saw people discussing the ram II i just wanted to drop some facts without derailing the topic too much.
