AIM-9B better missile than PL-17 and Meteor because it has more confirmed kills?
Aim-9B isn’t a BVRAAM, stop arguing in bad faith
it didnt though?
the tests had been conducted well before that happened, they just chose to release the information then
“Trust us guys, we’re still at the cutting edge of tech and only letting you know how cool we are now! We’re so far ahead that we don’t let allies use their own BVRAAMs on F-35 because our amraam is just that good and up to date!”
honestly I think its a better approach than the “our missile is the best and longest range in the world, no we have never tested it at that long of a range, but its definitively the best in the world” approach certain countries are taking
more because everything takes forever to get integrated onto F-35. LM taking their sweet time even for GBU-53
And what countries are those?
LM feels like on holiday.
Deployed still isn’t wide service. Afterall it is even larger than the R37 and even then the russians mainly use it on MiG-31 which is hell of a big jet. Way larger than even F-15.
Or you know, The Americans could just let their “allies” do the intergration themselves. What they originally agreed to do.
Meteor would have been fitted to the F-35 years ago
What currently is the issue with F35 integration? is it US or is it actual tech issues
God knows. I dont think i’ve ever seen a reason given at the very least
Just seems like they keep stalling the intergration, likely to try and upsell Aim-120Ds and maybe Aim-260s.
They’ll magically have it sorted once AIM-260 hits the shelves watch
Who knows, it fits in the internal bays, can be fired and is compatible with the radar and datalink
I don’t even see 260s going into service properly (at a large enough scale) in a short period, nvm exports.
I mean surely it will still have way inferior range even then right?
yeah was wondering.
Im guessing more like 1-2 years afterwards
Been saying this same thing for some time now, extremely ignorant people still hyperfixated on the +2 missiles and HMD (that could be removed and literally change nothing) as the primary reduction to Rafale capability. It’s not enough to actually make other aircraft viable if missile seekers are pathetically easy to defeat. No HMD just means Rafale has to use vertical ACM and that is perfectly fine for the same HOBS shots. Less missiles won’t matter, people don’t just throw MICAs out unless the shot is a near guaranteed kill.
Only way to get the Rafale down to everyone else’s level is to raise their level while taking into account changes to Rafale flight performance and considering removal of HMD and 2 AAMs.
Issue is. They wont do it. There are reports to buff Aim-9M going back 3 years, Reports to buff Aim-120 going back 2 years. etc etc.
Its pretty clear that they dont want to buff anything else
there is no proof for any AAM missile kill over 200km, only cloudy claims from Indian tabloids stitched together from multiple seperate incidents, they cannot even get the launch aircraft down to a single model
I suggest you practice better information hygiene
Which is why he said he’d rather go with that. R37 is also probably able to take shots from extremely far away, from tests it goes far beyond 200km. Obviously this ain’t some target shooting so everyone evades and that shortens the range significantly but still reports goes between 177 to 213 so I think we are close enough.
