Suggestion No.96

G’day lads. I want to suggest the ADMS; a (very) short range SAM system capable of carrying MANPADS like Mistral’s and Strela’s :)

Description:

Spoiler

The Rafael Air Defense Mobile System (ADMS) is a self propelled short range air defense system. It provides close air defense for vital sites, field units, and mobile combat units against fixed wing and rotary-wing targets in day, night, and in plenty other weather conditions.

An ADMS battery consists of a Surveillance and Command Unit (SCU) and multiple Missile Launching Units (MLU). The SCU uses a surveillance radar and IFF system to detect and classify targets, generate an Air Situation Picture (ASP), and transmit C2 data to the MLUs. The MLUs engage targets using electro optical day/night sight systems and automatic target slewing, carrying four ready to fire VSHORAD missiles on an overhead weapon station. The ADMS can operate in battery formation or as a standalone autonomous fire unit, which also has it’s own scanning system. It is mounted on APC or wheeled platforms, is modular, and can be adapted to different missile systems.

History:

Spoiler

The ADMS barely has any history, like at all. I do know that it appeared around the very late 90’s on Jane’s, with more info being given later on Jane’s Land-Based Air Defence 2001-02. During that time, it was only shown on a Automotive Industries M240 Storm 4x4 light truck in a Strela-2M (SA-7B) configuration.

During 2006, 4 whole years of no updates, it was shown again. This time, it was in a M113 configuration carrying (what appears to be) Mistral’s. It was shown officially only twice on Rafael’s older site; once as it’s own entry (which also had it’s own brochure), and one appearance in one of Rafael’s company brochures where it was only shown as an image. The last ever archive of both pages were during 2008, where afterwards no update of the ADMS came out, even to this day.

Armaments:

Spoiler

1 machine gun, which appears to kinda look like a 7.62 FN MAG also found on Merkavas

Variety of MANPADS, including Mistral, Strela-2M (SA-7B) and possibly even Stingers

Day/Night sights

Own search and track system

Specifications:

Spoiler

The ADMS is already as obscure as something that exists can be, meaning that there is literally no info about it’s dimensions and engine. I will therefore use basic M163 info instead, as it is the closest thing to the ADMS. The system has a length of 4.86m, a width of 2.85m and a height of 2.9m. It weighs around 11.2 tons. Powering it is a GM 6V53 212hp engine, which can make the vehicle go up to 64km/h
