Radio Messages problem: keys 7 and 8 not working properly

Hello!

I have a problem with Radio Messages after the devs updated this area of the game about a year ago. I have been ignoring this issue all this time, but maybe someone knows a solution, because after such a long time it’s unlikely the devs will fix it.

The problem is that when I press T in battles, I see this screen:

Everything from 1 to 6 works fine, but when I press 7, it does absolutely nothing. When I press 8, it says “Thank you!”. So it looks like my keybinds are somehow broken. But I have everything in Controls set to the default, I never changed anything in this area:

Spoiler

Everything was working fine before that faulty update (a long time ago), so I know it’s the update that caused this issue.

I very rarely use radio messages, so it’s not a big deal, but it’s still annoying to see something different on the screen and when you use the specific keys (7 and 8).

This looks like the same problem as this one:

Unfortunately, it was ignored by bug moderators. I play on PC, so it’s clearly not only Xbox problem.

I tried clearing the game cache folder but it didn’t help. I also tried to remove my Saves folder from Documents\My Games\WarThunder, but even with all configuration files recreated with the default settings the issue is still there.

It would be great if someone had an idea how to solve this problem.

Have you checked so that it isn’t a hardware issue? does you keyboard have issues with the number keys outside of the game?

Of course it’s not an issue with my keyboard. Even inside the game I can write 7 and 8 normally in the chat, so the game registers these keys correctly.

Also, if I press for example T 4 8, it says “Repairing”, how it should. So it’s only a problem with these two quick messages T 7 and T 8. Something is clearly not connected properly somewhere.

BTW: It would be “funny” if I had keyboard problems with keys 7 and 8 and didn’t notice them for over a year ;).

I’m just saying, i’ve seen WAY worse things when i worked as a mobile phone repair tech. (I had one guy come in demanding we change his battery because his phone was not charging, the charge port was full of lint… Or the lady that wanted us to tell her her Facebook password because she forgot it and obviously we had access to it)
So it’s always a good idea to ask dumb questions first that might instantly solve the issue (you could for example have been using a numpad in game but use the top row when writing numbers everywhere else and so could have missed it).

oh., i have the same issue - 7 title says ‘cover me’ but activates ‘im sorry’ and 8 says ‘cover me’ and do nothing)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to fix it. This doesn’t seem to be a common problem and I can’t find any information about where these settings are stored.

It’s possible that they are saved on a server - in which case, there may be nothing we can do about it.

I don’t have anything showing for 7 and 8 if I just press T … how do you get those two extra things showing in the first place?

Back in the day, we had a system that automatically assigned the two most used commands to the 7 and 8 buttons. These two commands depended on what each player used the most.

In one of the updates, somewhere around the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, they added more commands to the quick messages, and they changed this system a bit. I’m not even sure how those additional buttons (7 and 8) are supposed to work now.

From what I remember (I could be wrong about that, it was a long time ago), they disabled the old automatic system that tracked how often players used specific commands and replaced it with something new (I don’t remember the details about it). And that change broke my quick message keybinds.

Are you sure you don’t have them bound to something else? I bound my 6 key to another keybind for simulator. It still shows the 6 option in the selector menu, but it doesn’t work when I press it anymore as it isn’t bound to that anymore. I can still work it if I use the number pad 6

I haven’t added any additional keybinds to these buttons.

So one more time, here’s how it works for me:

  • Pressing 7 or Numpad 7 does nothing.
  • Pressing 8 or Numpad 8 activates “Thank you!”.

But when I press T 4 (which is the “Report” section of quick messages):

  • Pressing 8 or Numpad 8 activates “Repairing!” correctly.
  • I don’t see any quick message assigned to the 7 button in this section, I don’t know why. Pressing 7 just closes the quick message menu without triggering anything.

And here’s how my Common Controls look (everything is set to default):
