Questions from beginner

Get a full lineup so you don’t needa spawn Panther on such maps is probably your best option.

VK 2 tigers and a panther

Thats the other thing i tried to go back 1.0 with russians. I thought maybe russians are better and tried to play them. First match an 6.7k realistic victory player stomped with 17 kills 1 death. Very good “matchup system isnt it” (same goes on panther line too)

These are classic issues for someone playing well above their experience level - at 6.0 it is a long way above the level someone with ~ 250 games can be expected to understand the game
compared to rank 1 and 2 tanks this is high BR, with mostly very experienced players

So what is the ideal br? Is 3 br good?

playing the Panther after 248 games? Are you on your only account?

248 games. Wow i’ve never expected that. Also yes its my only acc

Not hard to do in the German tree with premium and speedrunning straight down the center branch.

No premium and i didnt speedrunned. I tried to stay in 3br but then i got bored.

I haven’t read the other post ,I’m not surprised people have trouble when they are in higher tiers with little experience of the game, that was my point.I just wondered if you had played before on an previous account.BR 6 is a real big ,so if you are struggling at 5 then you are going to be in trouble.

The game not just about the vehicles it is more about the players and their dirty trick and tactics. How to play CAS and SPAA,Map knowledge and not getting too far ahead of your crew skills. I guess everybody is different, each to their own.

Ok so whats the ideal br?

For learning that is relevant to you I would say 3-4 .It appears you are actually doing well.Well I think so for a beginner ,only time stats are useful to see : ) I only offer any help not because I am brilliant but because I suffered so much early on and with old x box one.I missed some very obvious points. You may not have done so forgive me if I am being patronising here.

I did this terrible map lol .The red is where the enemy will spawn and most likely move, the path they will take. The blue is the path your team will most likely take and the yellow is where better players may snipe from.See how they hide at the sides and look across so they can hit you from the side.It seems very obvious but it is easy to lose focus and position, enemy spawn can also give you a destination. If you are out of ideas then just head there or look there.

In later BR they have very fast vehicles and can get there so much earlier than you might ever expect so you need to be fearful of this as soon as you leave your spawn. If you dont know where to expect snipers then you will learn.

Another thing that helped me was actually think about where the enemy spawn as this gives you an idea of where they may be approaching you from regardless of which path.So I always try if possible in a with good frontal armour to face the enemy spawn and never or rarely turn your side to them. This has served me well and it in many encounters I come face to face with the enemy. This drew badly in pink : ) Just to remind you to face the enemy as a basic principle. This of course don’t not include angling your tank but that is a something else for you to study if you have not already.I am talking about general movement with a tank with good armour or SP gun like the stug ect

You may try to take those yellow positions your self and just wait.Always a gamble because nobody may turn up but for a newer player you become patient and chilled.New players can panic and become excited especially if they went straight into GRB with no Arcade though I see you have done some arcade.

i think this is the main problem for starters. You can try empty maps and study them ,like Cologne or the Rhine map ,they seem like a maze but you can follow a trail of where the enemy will travel. That is the key to getting kills. On those maps dead tanks are excellent cover.

Secondly the way so many get high kills is knowing where to shoot. So suddenly find yourself face to face with a Tiger or KV1. Why take five shots to kill it when you can take one or at least put the gun out so you then have time. You may have seen this already and it really is a valuable lesson.

Third is play a game ,do your best but look at who wins.If a guy with 12 kills and no deaths has won they get the replay up and watch it(note the players name down though so you don’t forget)
I only did this because I suspected people were cheating but I found they weren’t and they were just great players to learn from.

The VK Panther when fully modded is one of those great Ambush weapons to use on the yellow cross positions.Maybe a German version of the M18,Lighter but get to the hiding spot quicker.

Never fire a shot unless you have a good target and don’t fire you MG if you don’t have to.
Learn to turn your engine of when hiding and waiting ,No noise no smoke.

Hope I am not telling you the obvious : ) I am just an expert in getting my backside kicked.

In game stats show I am up from 49% to 53% over a couple of days of just concentrating and not leaving early or messing about.Leaving early is also best avoided if you can. Stay until the end because a bad start can lead to a good game and even if your team are getting hammered you can drop back and pick a few off as they come at you which is often easier than winning and going forward.

The fact the game changes as you go up BR is probably a good thing but is frustrating to start with.

  1. Panther is strong versus all tanks it would have faced in real life (WWII) but Gaijin has added lots of tanks that are from post war era or even decades after .It has not been designed to tank heat or hesh rounds so lot of the tanks you face will pen you for laughs whilst you must look for weak spots .

  2. Spotting enemies gets easier after a while …you can remain behind hill or even bush sometimes and use binoculars to peek over .
Watch for engine smoke ,tracks…sometimes bush isn’t a bush …when looking trough the bushes or behind rocks ,pay attention to antennas or bushes out of place. If you spot something that you can’t engage ,point it on the map so others can kill it .Listen for the engines. Don’t fire wildly on planes.

3.Stalinium effect is very real. Protection analysis in hangar doesn’t work…it only gives you rough idea about weakness . In game performance is quite different .

4 .Experience…just because your team is rushing forward doesn’t mean you need to join in ,cover your flanks,if at the start of match your team takes cap points don’t rush forward ,find good place to hunker down and absorb oncoming counterattack. When you need to repair cannon ,pop smoke and change position then repair.

5.Panther D is horrible in close quarters because of its turret rotation

Can you suggest some close combat tanks? Also i must add panther line cannons are pretty bad ass. Only problem paper armor. Literally every 5-6br cannon pens you from sloped front

Thanks so much dude i will try them. But for now i guess my biggest mistake is impatience if i cant see enemies for 25 30 sec then i leave that posititon. But i will try that sniping spots. Also if a map is full of buildings like berlin or snowy map(idk its name) how can we snipe?

No such thing as Close Combat tanks on those BR’s anymore

Panthers will be good if you don’t get too many French or Swedish tank on other team

Tiger II’s are good but mostly get uptiered and then turn into liability against tanks from 1960/70/ even 80’s

Best to learn careful play until Gaijin reshuffles some vehicles since ATM there are lots of tanks on 6.0 to 8.0 that need to move up.

Oh okay i thought there might be some tactics like sidescraping angling from wot.

Angling only works up to 5.3/5.7

Too many tanks above that br with 240 + mm pen for it to be effective

Ambush

Look at map and think where would you go if you were playing on other team to reach caps or good position ,then find good ambush point and wait.

Yea i know. Ww2 tank vs cold war era 240 mm pen “light” soviet tank

There isn’t a single ideal BR but new players are generally better off working up relatively slowly.

this gives a longer time to learn the game, upskill crews, while not spending lots of SL on buying and repairing expensive vehicles… so then you can make more informed decisions where to spend SL, and how to play.
