Question about using ExitLag – risk of ban?

Hi everyone!

I’m thinking about subscribing to ExitLag to improve my connection in War Thunder, as my internet route sometimes causes high ping and impacts my gameplay experience. However, before I go ahead, I have an important question: could using ExitLag lead to a ban?

I searched for information on this, but I couldn’t find a clear answer in Gaijin’s policies, and I know some games have stricter rules about third-party programs. To clarify, I submitted a ticket to War Thunder support, but I haven’t received a response yet.

Has anyone here used ExitLag in War Thunder, or does anyone know if there’s any risk of being penalized for using this type of service? I’d really appreciate any experiences or insights you could share on this.

Thanks for your help! "

I (think?) VPNs are against TOS for the game, as it can lead to a bunch of unintended consequences.
Last post I saw regarding these types of services, it was a “banned for no reason” post.
ExitLag is just a VPN with a focus on low latency, if you’re seeing 200-300ms ping without using it, I could only honestly see you going to 100-200 using it.

ExitLag is not a VPN. It’s a routing optimization tool focused on reducing lag in online games by choosing the best connection routes, without prioritizing encryption or privacy like a traditional VPN would.

It is 100% a VPN. You just don’t hide your connections from your ISP or servers you play on. (This is even worse than using a normal VPN as you are giving ExitLag all your information from connections)

This is another definition of a VPN. You are connecting to ExitLag servers from your home network, and then connecting to the game, instead of connecting directly.

Again,

If you need examples I can provide them, but I would not use it.

In a way, it’s similar to logging into the GeForce Now servers, where War Thunder has a partnership with NVIDIA. The server, in this case, is not located in my home and is often in another country. War Thunder shouldn’t be hypocritical by blocking other servers while allowing the use of GeForce Now.

Not so much because GeForce Now is more like a screen share and less like a VPN, you are using remote control with low latency (sometimes) another machine so it’s not so much a VPN, it’s more like a VM.

Disagree.

Correct. Instead of using your specific ISP’s routing tables, you are using custom ones from ExitLag, which can cut out some of the hops and relays it uses.

Since they are not the same, I disagree. As @Croloh said, its like a Virtual Machine.
Think of GeForce Now being like a streaming service. You connect to their servers from your own connection, and then are able to use a physical (or virtual) computer on THEIR network. You are essentially streaming the game to your home PC, but using a PC from GeForce. They also are not tunneling or obfuscating your connection details to GeForce Now or War Thunder, but with ExitLag/VPN you are, which leads to a crap ton of vulnerabilities regarding cheating/scamming/hacking/ban circumvention etc

This is very confusing. GAIJIJN needs to take a clear stance once and for all and stop hiding, whether it’s about banning or not. Logically, there shouldn’t be any ban, since EXITLAG only improves your connection, unlike programs like HACK, which give an unfair advantage. There is a big difference between using this program or facing difficulties playing due to PL connection issues, especially since we don’t have servers in South America or Australia, for example.
