PT-91M2A1 Twardy with Elbit Systems Remote Control Weapon Station.

  • Description :
    • The PT-91M2A1 Twardy is a modification of the PT-91 Twardy that could be selected to be become the standard Main Battle Tank along with the Leopard 2PL and M1A2 SEPv3 . The program to enhance the already existing PT-91 Twardy began after the military declined the PT-16/PT-17 main battle tanks due to affordability, therefore a new program with the tank designation PT-91M2 was formed. This program would lead to two variants of the PT-91M2, the A1 version which is designed to be cost effective as well as incorporate new digital technologies, and the A2 version which is designed to bring out the most of the PT-91 Twardy platform. The A1 version is not to be ignored however, still incorporates a significant amount of new technologies as well as enhancements to crew survivability and firepower. Some advancements of the A1 include upgraded TIFCS-GS Thermal Sight for the gunner and the Elbit Remote Control Weapon Station featuring a 12.7mm HMG (w/ Hunter-Killer mode), Slovakian 2A46MS 125mm smoothbore gun, rear APU, enhanced LWS, rear slat armor, and more. The PT-91M2A1 still features the same ERAWA-2 ERA that is found on the original PT-91 Twardy. One significant takeaway is that the Polish Army is in a bidding process to replace the old Soviet APFSDS-T rounds still in service with the Polish Army. Leading the bids is the Elbit Systems MK-1 APFSDS-T round with enhanced penetration. This round would be used with either the A1 or A2 variants of the new PT-91M2. Decision on the A1 or A2 models are in still in progress and is due to be accepted into service within the next 3-5 years, however due to the conflict in Ukraine, it is unknown if Poland will continue the program or will reduce its expectations.

    • The PT-91M2A1 and PT-91M2A2 are both upgrade options (one or the other) being considered for the Polish PT-91 Twady. The PT-91M2A1 model is a budget option that has the same powerplant and less electronics as the base model PT-91 Twady and could be an alternative in-game to the PT-91M2A2 as it could sit at the same BR.
