PT-91M Pendekar - Malaysia's Agile Twardy

As far as I remember they reach 70km/h or 72km/h top speed (which was one of the requirement for their mbt) and a decently good 25km/h reverse speed with offroad top speed of 45km/h with the new transmission. Which also allows them to neutral steer. http://web.archive.org/web/20110719065442/http://www.renk.newsfactory.de/cms_media/objekte/266-ESM%20350.pdf

tank trials besides PT-91 are, K1 88, T-90, T-84, T-72S (change into T90), T-72M1 from Slovakia and Vicker Mk3(M) from the Brits

They also had custom made composite armor which no one knows what’s inside except for the manufacturer and the Malaysia Army.

Their gunner is equip with Sagem Savan 12 meanwhile the commander is equip with Vigy-15 system ( I guess it’s call savan-15 as well) Their system and BMS are all NATO spec

Their autoloader carousel is also armored plated cover

the rest is as OP said, obra-3 laser warning, gen 3 erawa-2 and such. I got to visit their military exhibition a few years back. Apparently they are no longer getting Bosnian shells (In huge stockpiles). No they didn’t tell me which or from who are they using currently for their new ammo, I guess they found better stuff.

here’s the PT-91M sight comparison with other MBT PT-91M sensor comparison - Album on Imgur

here are some of it’s mobility shown at here and here with some action

Now this is some good meat.

how do you know it’s “minor improvement” when the composite armor is heavily custom made? The sparrows in Gliwice were chirping that Malaysia didn’t want either CAWA or fiberglass/STEF

one of the much better export " T-72 " the other I could think of is Serbian M84AS series

Seeing as Japan just got a confirmed Malaysian subtree it seems this will tragically not be in the Polish tree (and it would have been a perfect top tier squadron vehicle)
But hey at least maybe it’ll come sooner than later

Who knows, it can also be a start to the Polish tech tree :)

There’s still the PT-91E if needed, which should be very similar to it. But even aside from that there’s a lot of interesting purely domestic variants for the Polish tree as well.

what tech tree?

There’s actually also the PT-91P proposed to the Peru that can be used

Yeah, though I see the spot of top squadron tank as best filled by an export variant of a tank, and the PT-91M would have fit perfectly for that description. Of course there’s the very similar E that could be instead, though that was only a prototype which is a tad disappointing compared to a proper export vehicle. The E IMO would have been a premium. And of course there are plenty of comparable domestic PT-91 variants for the Tech Tree.

so… which tech tree?

Will be going to Japan

they do need more “armour” around top teir

We actually know what might be there. As part of the contract with Bumar Łabędy S.A., Malaysia had the choice of retaining the standard M1 armor with glass-reinforced textolite or opting for the already well-known CAWA-2 ceramic armor. Testing concluded around 1998 and was intended for use in the next modernization of the PT-91 PT-97 tank, but this never materialized. Returning to the topic of the new PT-91s, it was originally planned to replace the textolite in the hull without changing the turret armor due to the cost of such an operation. It’s also worth mentioning the rumors about using a new type of high-strength steel plate, 16mm thick (replacing the one currently installed). Unfortunately, we don’t know if Malaysia opted for this solution, as this information is classified. However, if the tanks for Malaysia are equipped with CAWA-2, these tanks will shine with excellent protection exceeding 550-570mm of RHA without the use of ERAWA-2 cubes above it! Which is quite impressive considering that in the book A.Wiśniewski stated that CAWA-2 should be used in par with ERAWA-2 in this configuration this tank would out perform T-72B hull armour by quite a bit and at the same time it would have access to the new FCS, a better engine and an impressive reverse gear which especially in warthunder matters a lot. All this information comes from colonel A.Wiśniewski book from 2002 Amunicja i pancerze he was in charge in making the Ceramic Armour Wiśniewski Adam (CAWA-1/2) and Explosive Reactive Armour Wiśniewski Adam (ERAWA-1/2).

Now to the plated autoloader carousel if you mind can you give us some source for that? I’ve been only familiar with something like this in T-90M. In case of autoloader of PT-91M the only change i have heard is the new soft which let ammunition carousel spin in both directions reducing the time in which autoloader would swap ammo types.

The PT-91E and Ex are not just similiar, they are the two PT-91M prototypes.

As for the PT-91P, I think it might be a little worse than the PT-91M. From what I know it is basically just a PT-91A demonstrator with a new camoflage. Basically just a PT-91 with 1000hp engine

Which BR would this be at? It seems like a good fit for 10.7 imo, if so then maybe if paired with potential Indonesian tanks, like Leopard 2A4+ and Harimau which also seems like a 10.7 fit it could make a solid lineup, specially since Japan lacks 10.7, plus the PT-91 itself is very interesting

its hard to decide to be honest the best answer for this question will be “it depends” If a tank will get the 3BM42 and ceramic armor in the frontal plate, it will have to be very high in BR, because what are you missing then? You have 24 km/h reverse speed, you’re going 70 km/h because you have a 1000 hp engine, third-generation thermal imaging, and a fast stabilizer. On the other hand, the snail might decide to use glass textolite and the 3BM15, so obviously it will be much lower then.

On this source it says something else
