PT-91 (early) - Legacy model

Never heard of it before

I see, I didn’t know about them, I only heard about PT91, PT91M

It’s understandable since these were the only variants mass produced, we stopped modernising our PT-91’s and focused mostly on NATO tech

I’ve heard of PT16 and PT17, but I’m not sure if they’re serial.

They aren’t either :(

Found an archive from a website but it calls it the PT-72U

So what is distinct about an “early” PT-91? What upgrades did the PT-91 receive during its life that warrants two versions? The only upgrade I can remember is the fitting of KLW-1, but just a different thermals isn’t enough to warrant a separate vehicle IMO.

The PT-91 (early) is the first 20 tanks of serial production, which have the generation 1 ERAWA arrangement. And 1st gen TES thermals.

The PT-91 (late) is the later production version of the tank featuring the more effective and better generation 2 ERAWA arrangement (It gets more ERAWA-2 on the hull, eliminating certain weakspots). It can also be further differentiated by the fact that during some overhauls it received the 3rd gen KLW-1 thermals.

Maybe make a “Difference between PT-91 (early) and PT-91 (late)”-section in your suggestion? I often include that. :D

PT91M for Japan would be nice. I’ve been following PT91M thread and hopefully it will come to Japanese TT in 2026.

For this actually no, a true first production version would have drawa-m with just night vision (I’m pretty sure it is just a digitized Merida fcs mostly)

In-game it would be like T-72B 1989

This is a upgrade package for T-72 tanks and also for PT-91. No one ever bought it, I think Armenia tried to but you know how it goes

Kinda like the PSO kits in-game

(When applied to PT-91 it is called PT-91U)

Also mistakenly some people call PT-91s that go to Ukraine at PT-91U for Ukraine, this is just fake and has no reality

Last message I’ll send but adding on to Polish thunder:

There were three “generations” of ERAWA armor layout, not brick variant but how the armor was placed. Gen 1 was mostly ERAWA 1 and some 2. Gen 2 had a lot more bricks in general. Gen 3 reduced on bricks, but had most bricks just be ERAWA 2

As for electronics it went Drawa-M (first FCS with only NVD), Drawa-T (with TES), Drawa-TG (this one I think has the KLW-1), and I think there is a drawa TGN but i forgot

Also there has but various improvements in general but just small things. One I can think off is anti-slip material on the newer ERAWA plates

Also according to this: PT-91 report PT-91s got a tiger FCS upgrade in 1999 which added Hunter/killer tracking to the existing FCS

Sorry forgot about this I was on holiday

Yes I know

I’m aware of all 3 except for the fourth one

I’ve only seen this on the 3rd generation armour arrangement

This I didn’t know thank you

True, either way the TES thermals can still be added as a researchable component.

Yea like T-80B (which this would be comparable to)
