Proposal for an Italian Premium 1.0 Vehicle - L3/35 LF (Flamethrower)

Introduction: Hello everyone, today I would like to propose an interesting addition to the Italian ground forces in War Thunder: the L3/35 LF, the flamethrower variant of the famous Italian light tank. This vehicle could be a great choice as a premium at BR 1.0, providing a unique and fun experience for players new to the Italian tech tree.

History and Development: The L3/35 was an improved version of the L3/33, a light tank based on a British design. During World War II, several variants were developed, including the flamethrower-equipped version, designated as the L3/35 LF. This version was deployed in multiple theaters of war, including North Africa and the Balkans Campaign, proving effective in close combat and infantry support.

Technical Specifications:

  • Primary Armament: Mod. 35 flamethrower, capable of releasing fire jets at short range, making it lethal against unarmored vehicles and infantry (if present in the game).
  • Ammunition: Flammable fuel tank, with a capacity of approximately 100 liters, sufficient for multiple bursts.
  • Mobility:
    • Weight: ~3.2 tons
    • Engine: Fiat-SPA CV3, 43 HP
    • Maximum speed: approximately 42 km/h
    • Leaf spring suspension
  • Armor:
    • Hull: 6-14 mm
    • Turret: N/A (closed-hull design, no turret)
  • Crew: 2 members (driver and flamethrower operator)

Why Add It to War Thunder?

  • Unique Gameplay Experience: A vehicle equipped with a flamethrower would introduce a very particular close-quarters combat dynamic, suitable for urban maps and tight environments.
  • Easy to Balance: At BR 1.0, the L3/35 LF would not be overly powerful, as its armor is practically nonexistent and its range is limited.
  • Historical Representation: The presence of an Italian flamethrower vehicle would be a historically accurate addition, considering their use in various theaters of war.
  • Great Low-Tier Premium: Perfect for new players who want to accelerate their progress in the Italian tree without introducing overly advanced vehicles.

Possible Limitations and Balancing:

  • Very short range: The flamethrower would have a very limited reach, forcing the player to get very close to enemies.
  • Nonexistent protection: Even enemy machine guns would be lethal against the L3/35 LF.
  • Low effectiveness against closed tanks: The flamethrower would only be effective against open-top vehicles or crews vulnerable to thermal damage.

Conclusion: The addition of the L3/35 LF as a premium vehicle at BR 1.0 would enrich the Italian tech tree with a unique and fun option, perfect for low-tier gameplay. What do you think? Would you like to see this small flamethrower tank in the game? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Thanks for your attention, and I hope this proposal sparks interest in the community and, maybe, the developers!

This would require them to actually model how flamethrowers impact vehicles. Unlike the way it is currently modeled, flamethrowers were very effective against armour (as the british demonstrated by torching a couple valentines).
