Projekt Emil

The Swedish Kranvagn was one of the most ambitious armored projects of the late 1950s. Developed during the early Cold War, Sweden required a highly protected yet mobile heavy tank capable of countering the Soviet IS-3.
Designed with an oscillating turret and an autoloaded 120 mm gun, the Kranvagn combined heavy firepower with a relatively low profile and strong frontal armor. Its innovative design philosophy focused on survivability, firepower, and tactical flexibility, making it a unique and historically significant vehicle that would fit well within War Thunder’s Swedish ground forces tree.

Given its advanced design and historical relevance, the Kranvagn would provide an interesting addition to Swedish gameplay, offering a distinct playstyle compared to existing vehicles.

Why the Kranvagn Should Be Added to War Thunder

  1. Historical Significance

The Kranvagn was one of Sweden’s most ambitious Cold War tank projects, built to take on the Soviet IS-3. Even though it never went past prototypes, War Thunder already has several experimental vehicles, so adding it would fit perfectly with what’s already in the game.

  1. Unique Gameplay

The Kranvagn’s oscillating turret and autoloaded 120 mm gun would make it feel really different to play. It could hit hard in bursts and stay tough with strong frontal armor, making it a real beast in frontal engagements.

  1. Strengthening the Swedish Tree

Right now, Sweden doesn’t have a true Cold War heavy tank in the tech tree. The Kranvagn would fill that gap, giving players a unique option and making the lineup more interesting without breaking balance.

  1. Balance Flexibility

The vehicle’s magazine system, armor design, and ammo types give devs plenty of room to tune it. They could adjust how fast it fires, how well it takes hits, and how strong each shell is, so it fits perfectly in the BR range.

  1. Community Appeal

People already know about the Kranvagn, and its unusual design would definitely catch attention. It’s unique, historical, and would create hype among War Thunder fans.

A good Battle Rating for it would be like 7.7

If you want to create a suggestion you can do so in the suggestion section here on the forum. That section is however pre-moderated and only posts that follow their rules and guidelines will get posted and it can take a couple of weeks for a post to get reviewed for publication. If it gets accepted and made public it then has a chance to get sent to the developers as a suggestion later on.

I recommend looking at other suggestions in the same category to get a feel for what they usually require to get accepted.
