Hello everyone, Today I would like to suggest the unfinished corvette for the Russian Navy, Project 12300 “Scorpion”!

History:

Spoiler

Project 12300 “Scorpion” is a missile corvette developed by the Russian Navy in the late 1990. This ship was developed and designed by the Almaz Central Design Bureau as a replacement for the Tarantul-class corvettes used by the Russian Navy and overseas.
In the 1990s, the Russian Navy still operated a large number of Tarantul-class and Nanuchka-class corvettes developed during the Soviet era. However, these designs were already outdated by that time, and their high detectability—a characteristic of older-generation vessels—could not be resolved through redesign alone. In this context, the prototype announced as a completely new “next-generation corvette” rather than a conventional design was Project 12300 “Scorpion.”

The original plan was to build 10 ships for the Russian Navy, 10 ships for the Border Service of Russia, and 30 ships for export to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with the first ship scheduled for completion by 2005.
On June 5, 2001, the keel-laying ceremony for the first ship was held at the Vympel Shipyard in Livinsk, but due to funding shortages, construction was suspended after the completion of the hull, and the ship has not yet entered service. While the development has not been officially canceled, as of 2025, no further updates on the construction progress have been announced.

Sales of the Scorpion were poor, and although models were exhibited at trade shows and other events until around 2015, no actual contracts were ever signed. Ironically, the Tarantul-class continued to be exported to Vietnam, Turkmenistan, and other countries, and even now, they continue to be used as active vessels in various countries and are successful.

The design and concept of this ship were carried over to the later Project 21631 Buyan-class corvette and Project 22800 Karakurt-class corvette, which were actually mass-produced and commissioned. This ship was truly the first step toward innovation, breaking away from the outdated designs of the Soviet era.

Hull and Engine:

Spoiler

Although the Scorpion’s hull is nearly the same size as the Tarantul-class, it features a completely different structure, with a design prioritizing stealth capabilities. It also incorporates an interceptor stabilizer at the stern, significantly enhancing maneuverability at high speeds. The propulsion system adopts a CODAG configuration consisting of 2 M-530 diesel engines and 1 GTU-12 gas turbine engine, achieving a cruising speed of 33 knots and a maximum speed of 38-40 knots when using the gas turbine. It also maintains a range of 2,200 nautical miles at 12 knots, balancing speed and range.

Armament:

A-190E 100/59

Spoiler

The Main cannon is the A-190E dual-purpose rapid-fire gun, which was the most advanced main gun in Russia at the time. While the Tarantula class and 500t corvettes from various countries around the world adopted 76mm guns, the Scorpion is equipped with a relatively large 100mm gun for its small hull.

Spec:
Firing rate: 80 rpm
Ammo type: HE/HE-VT (15.6 kg)
Range:
Surface targets: Over 20 km
Air targets: 15 km
Ammo: 80

CADS-N-1 Kashtan-1 CIWS

Spoiler

The Kashtan-1 is a composite defense system that includes 2 AO-18K (Gsh-6-30) cannons, 9M311K missiles, and a radar system that can operate independently. The Scorpion mounts this turret on the rear of the hull.

Spec (cannon)
Rate of fire: 10,000 rpm
Range: 500m-4000m
Ammo capacity: 2,000 rounds
Spec (Missile) *Same as the 9M311 in the game
Guidance system: SACLOS
Maximum speed: 910m/s
Range: 1500-8000m
Explosive charge: 4.62kg
Maximum G: 32

P-800 Oniks

Spoiler

The P-800 is a supersonic anti-ship cruise missile developed in Russia, and it was also the most advanced missile at the time the Scorpion was announced. Since then, it has been widely adopted in Russia since 2002, primarily on corvettes, and has also been exported to several countries.

The Scorpion is equipped with 2 VLS units on each side of the ship’s midsection. It uses the 3Ts-25E Garpun-B guidance system, capable of detecting and tracking targets from a maximum range of 500 km.

It was extremely difficult to install VLS on the small Scorpion, so it is thought that a dedicated 2x2 launcher model was adopted, which differs from the 3S14 launcher developed later.

Spec
Guidance system: IOG+ARH+Passive
Maximum speed: M2.5 (14,000 m)
Range: 120 km-300 km
Weight: 3,100 kg
Warhead Weight: 300 kg

This missile is too advanced and powerful to be implemented in Warthunder at this time, so it remains an optional feature as of 2025.

PK-10 “Smeliy”

Spoiler

Although it is not yet useful in the game, it is a decoy launcher for anti-missile defense, a common piece of equipment in the Russian Navy at the time, with four units mounted on the stern of the Scorpion.
