AShM ships will not fare well if placed at a battlerating where they’ll have to fight battleships, especially on current naval maps.
They don’t actually pose much in terms of “progression” in battle power compared to battleships. Mainly because their IRL function of mission killing battleships doesn’t exist in game.
Missile ships would need to be able to spawn at genuinely absurd ranges, and they’d also need functional ship-to-ship radar which I’m pretty sure we don’t have (HMS Tiger’s rangefinders sort of count but not really)
take a look at the YJ83 or sea eagle already in game, and you’ll soon learn this won’t be the case
The only modern stuff that can hold a candle to a WWII battleship would be a good old torpedo
Those explode under the keel, snap the ship’s “neck” if you will
Better start going through the 5 stages of grief ASAP.
Smin’s message also seems to confirm no new top of the line ship for France (so no missile ship and we won’t know what was being develoeped before September), and it also seems to confirm no subs are coming this patch, which i had some hopes for, ngl
Yeah. Wonder what all these cryptic messages in this thread and under the Dev blog were for, then, if it was to debunk it not much after.
Oh well. So be it.
Doesn’t change the fact that good ol’ 1950’s Jean Bart had no buisness being a premium. The Clem should have been there. And no matter the dubious justifications provided, it’s fairly obvious that it was kept away from the tech tree for this long, for one reason and one reason only : To sell it.
Hopefully, France will have some things in air or ground to make this patch a bit more worthwile.
Why add the Jean Bart as a Premium ship when the Clemenceau or the Gascogne would have been perfect and even more logical?
The Jean Bart was undoubtedly the only true possible evolution of the Richelieu in the TT if we look at the current criteria allowing the addition of a ship to the game
Compared to the 1943 Richelieu, the Jean Bart has:
slightly better speed thanks to improved and more reliable machinery, as the 1943 Richelieu still had its original machinery and a hull that was still warped despite repairs in the U.S.
better protection against torpedoes thanks to the addition of external bulges.
faster reload speed
improved accuracy of the main guns thanks to the addition of firing delay mechanisms, giving it the same accuracy as its British counterparts during trials
better anti-air capabilities thanks to modernized turrets and radar fire control, allowing it to open fire beyond visual range.
I hope all these improvements related to its late completion in 1955 will be properly reflected in the game. (lol)
With Smin’s latest big post about the Jean Bart and the French Navy, it’s almost as if Gaijin is openly mocking the players and the game, but only a little.
At worst, the Clemenceau or Gascogne being a good premium ship for farming the Richelieu and the Jean Bart, okay in some parallel universe… but here, we’re being asked to shell out €80 to get the best ship of a nation. Bravo. Gaijin’s “we don’t give a damn” attitude is pretty strong, especially since they didn’t even bother to make another ship [in the tech tree].
We love you, forum moderators, but next time, please avoid selling us a dream just to excuse Gaijin. It’s your job to defend them and communicate information to the community, but to make us hope for better than the Jean Bart, which is both the best in its nation and the last possible BB outside of paper ships, only to end up with nothing and not even Jean Bart in the regular tree, is just sad.
And it’s even worse when you look at the 3D model of the Richelieu they gave us. Yes, the textures are beautiful, but the model itself is incredibly inaccurate you can easily find free 3D models that are much more accurate. It’s a disgrace.
I’ve submitted over 30 bug reports for the Richelieu, almost all of which were accepted, and some of them were fixed on the Clemenceau when it was released, but they still haven’t been fixed on the Richelieu even though, for once, all they had to do was copy and paste the fixes.
How did you think they would do France dirty this patch? Adding the Jean-Bart as premium clearly was the baddest way possible so its almost understandable ngl :-( /s if thats not clear for someone
Tho it has a positive side (at least for me) since when i can finally bring myself to get a 3rd naval tech tree now i wouldn’t have to go through the absolutely atrocious grind in naval rb to get a competitive ship for naval ec playing france (Le Triomphant/Duguay Trouin and Jean Bart are enough to be able to grind the tree slowly by playing an actually good naval gamemode 2 days of every week), still the “top” tier ship that could be accessible to me in a year on sales by whipping my wallet should have been the clemenceau and not a a ship that actually existed and that should be an achievement to earn for everyone that wants it for its historic significance.
We have the same access to information you guys do! also at the time as Smin stated there was something in the works at the time.
For Myself and Smin making comments on the Topic at that time the info was accurate but as all things in Dev things can and will change Smin has more than fairly even while on Holiday came back and update everyone saying sadly things had changed. But to say we was selling you a lie is IMO disingenuous and a twisting of actual events.
We understand the news was not what people had hoped.
It’s more the fact that Gaijin has lied and ignored feedback constantly.
People BEGGED Jean Bart to be tech tree and Clemenceau to be the potential premium.
Gaijin has stated, verbatim, ‘we will not sell top tier premium vehicles’.
Jean Bart, which will almost guaranteed to be 8.3, is top tier for her respective nation.
I almost expect this post to be flagged but this is getting tiring that a decent chunk of the playerbase is trying to help improve the game and we’re constantly being ignored at best and silenced at worst.
First of all, thank you for your answer. You’re right, saying you were ‘lying’ was probably a bit too harsh on my part, and I apologize for that, especially for my first post. My English is a bit shaky, so I might have used words that were stronger than what I actually meant. I know you guys always do the best job possible, and honestly, Smin should really just enjoy his holidays to the fullest! ^^ It’s definitely not your fault.
It’s just a massive shame. The Jean Bart is my absolute favorite battleship, and I was waiting for it to finally have a reason to continue grinding the French naval tree. Seeing what is arguably the most anticipated ship of the tech tree and the last major one available become a premium feels like a hard pill to swallow. It feels a bit like Gaijin is just saying, ‘Here is the ship you wanted, it’s 80€, and we have nothing else planned behind it.’ It leaves us with no viable reason to keep progressing through the French navy.
The hope of getting something bigger down the line was exciting, until we realized that Gaijin just hadn’t planned anything more. It’s a shame that they make your lives harder as community managers by not giving you at least the minimum amount of information needed to prevent this kind of situation.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply and for your work!!
