Congrats, Gaijin. You somehow managed to piss off both sides of the playerbase with the exact same aircraft.
First, when the F-14D was announced on June 5th, you locked one of the most iconic and anticipated US aircraft behind an $79.99 premium pack , with no researchable equivalent. People immediately asked for a Tech Tree F-14D, and the answer — whether explicitly stated or simply communicated through the way the aircraft was released — was that if you wanted the Super Tomcat, you had to pay for it.
So people paid.
Now, barely two months later, you announce that you’re adding a researchable F-14D after all.
And not even a meaningfully different version.
According to your own announcement, the Tech Tree aircraft will be a “direct analogue in terms of load outs and performance” to the premium F-14D, with alternative skins being one of the few stated differences.
Seriously?
You managed to create the worst possible sequence of decisions:
1. Refuse to give US players a researchable F-14D when the aircraft is released.
2. Put it behind an $80 paywall instead.
3. Let people spend $80 because that’s apparently the only way they’re getting an F-14D.
4. Two months later announce that you’re adding essentially the same aircraft to the Tech Tree anyway.
How out of touch with your own customers do you have to be to think this is a good way to handle a premium release?
And before someone says “but the premium still has premium bonuses” — obviously it does. That’s not the point. The point is that a huge part of the appeal of that pack was access to the F-14D itself , because there was no researchable counterpart. Had players known from day one that an essentially identical Tech Tree F-14D was coming shortly afterward, how many of them would still have spent $80?
And somehow the monetization isn’t even the most frustrating part.
We’re apparently getting another F-14D with essentially the same performance and loadouts , instead of using the opportunity to represent a genuinely different configuration — such as an F-14D(R) with historically appropriate distinctions.
Meanwhile, the existing F-14D still has multiple technical issues and disputed implementations.
The Phoenix family has had repeated reports regarding its behavior and missing capabilities. There are reports concerning the F-14D’s HUD implementation. There are reports concerning its cockpit/MFD functionality. There are also multiple reports and discussions regarding the implementation of the AIM-54C/C+.
So instead of addressing those issues and making the aircraft we already paid for accurate and complete, we’re apparently getting another near-copy of it in the Tech Tree.
Same aircraft.
Same AIM-9Ms.
Same Phoenix implementation.
Same problems.
But hey — different skins.
At this point I genuinely want to know what the thought process was.
If a Tech Tree F-14D was acceptable after all, why wasn’t it announced alongside the premium in June?
If the intention was always to evaluate community feedback, why sell the premium first and only clarify the existence of an equivalent researchable aircraft after people had already bought it?
And if you’re going to add another F-14D anyway, why make it a direct analogue instead of taking the opportunity to model a genuinely distinct F-14D configuration?
Adding a researchable F-14D is absolutely the right decision.
The way you handled getting there is the problem.
You created an unnecessary controversy, monetized the absence of a Tech Tree version, waited until after people bought the premium, and then announced that the researchable aircraft will essentially be the same thing.
Congratulations.
You somehow made adding a Tech Tree F-14D — something the community actually wanted — feel insulting.

Nailed this. As if their treatment of the Abrams bug reports wasn’t enough.
Releaseing broken vehicles year after year which negatively impacted their player base’s experience. People who invested no small amount of money mind you.
Ignoring player feedback regarding the F14. Only to reverse course after getting a truckload of money.
Ignoring the backlog of 2-5 year old accepted bug reports to fix vehicles and provide the experience their players ASKED for.
Could continue, but y’all get the the point. The hubris is shocking.

Look at the price tag differenty.
First. Have a look at TheEuropeanCanadian YT stream. With his link you get 3% discounts in the store, always.
You get 30 Days premium worth 10 bucks and 3000 GE worth another 20 bucks. If you take this off from the 80 bucks you end up at 50 bucks for the F-14D
The math is simple. Do you get GEs or premium account from time to time? If the answer is yes, like for me, then instead of buying it from time to time, wait and make it a combination out of new vehicles you get. This way I get the combo. I never buy a full year premium. For me always wait to see what vehicles are coming and fill the premium days with this. Only if I really run out of days, I top them up directly.
In my 9 years WT, i guess it only happened in two occasions that I did not have sufficient premium days for the fullyear.
GE i use for getting vehicles which I don‘t want to research. Too lazy. But since most of my TT is done, there is nothing to research anyway. I have some GE on spare.
I will never grind the US F-14 TT or F18. The Swiss F-18 is the only Hornet I use since its appearance. To buy the F-14D for my collection is a logical thing to do.

I am very curious about how people who pre-ordered the F14D feel when they see this thing get backstabbed by Gaijin in less than one version. Gaijin is also a company of geniuses; they were able to come up with a single version and put it on the F14D’s tech tree.

I am totally fine and I don’t care if there is a TT F-14D coming or not. I hate to grind and spade as this is a big waste of time, which one should be spending flying and tanking.

I bought it from selling event vehicles so it isn’t actually my money so I’m fine with it.
But what I’m not fine about it the complete 180 turn from “No why would we add a TT F-14D we already have the B that’s enough” to “We’re listening to your feedback and now are adding a TT version”. That’s a bit scummy to me.

Its a little unclear what the objective is here. Everything Grom said was in the context of the time it was posted.
At the time there were no plans for a TT F-14D. We reveiewed all feedback from the major update and based on that, it was decided to implement one as a result of said feedback. As it was clear regardless of how similar it would be to the F-14B, people really wanted a TT one regardless.
It had nothing to do with “sales”. The F-14D is still
a hugely popular premium and the premium will continue to be an option for those that want it.
We are however still following the feedback since yesterday’s announcement. Its incredibly disappointing to see some of the vulgar insults thrown back at devs / staff here and on reddit by some in this topic as a result of this feedback being actioned. So that will be factored into future decisions too.

Grom was rather adamant about the reasons for the 14D not coming as a TT addition. Indeed he was very dismissive - stating that obviously the results of team compositions would support his view.
Unfortunately, this is the age of the internet. If you nail your colours to the mast on a public forum and say everyone else is wrong - the means exist by which your comments can come back as an unwelcome reminder.
There is also the issue of those who bought a 14D having been told that it was not coming in future in any non-paid avenue - only for it to indeed arrive months later for free.
Amidst that, you can probably see why some of us see a little bit of irony in all this. Insults or abuse are of course not called for.

Naturally its our job to pass on the reasoning from the devs as to why decisions were made. These were the facts at that moment, so spoken as such.
This was in response to a claim about pre-orders being “bad”. Which was not the case for AIM-9M being added, but again feedback.
Thats more than fine. Context is however important. When its cut out, its easy to paint a different picture for people.
We laid clear our plans. However demand and feedback from the community was clear. We have therefore actioned that. premium F-14D retains all its same capabilities as a premium and has not been degraded at all.
The F-14D in the tree is an option for those that requested it as an alternative.

Currently no.
I have already purchased the Premium F-14D. I am very satisfied with the product itself and have no regrets. Even if I had known that the TT F-14D would be implemented, I think I would have still purchased the Premium F-14D.
However, even with that in mind, whether your business practices at Gaijin are honest and whether I can forgive them is a completely different matter.
Unfortunately, many of us, including myself, believe that “Gaijin intentionally concealed the planned implementation of the TT F-14D to encourage the purchase of the Premium F-14D, deliberately stirring up customer demand before announcing the TT F-14D to appear as if they were responding to customer feedback.”
You may deny this, but I don’t think it’s an unreasonable or unfair accusation at all. In fact, I would even say it’s natural to think that way.
Certainly, it may be true that there were no plans to implement the TT F-14D at the time of the last update, and I don’t completely disbelieve that. However, the announcement that the F-14D would be limited to premium models, the fact that the initially planned equipment was inappropriate, and the belated announcement of the TT F-14D—all of these were things that anyone with a little thought could easily have predicted would lead to a flood of complaints.
Continuing to do things that even a child could predict, and then acting as if people will believe you just because you deny it, makes people feel like they’ve been “made a fool of.”
Isn’t it about time you realized that the criticism against you stems not only from your actual actions, but also from your fundamental attitude and dishonesty towards your users?
You’re running a business. We’re happy to pay for products we genuinely want to buy, and it’s great if you can make a profit from them.
It’s unacceptable to make a fool of the people who support you for that reason.
