[possible suggestion] Full Metal Jacket inspired Vismod for the M41A1

READ BEFORE YOU COMMENT

First off, I wanna say that THIS IS NOT A SUGGESTION.
And secondly, I am waiting to hear back on whether this can be a valid suggestion in the first place.
For now, this is just a rough draft of what may become a suggestion in the future.
Also, it’s been a while since I watched the movie so I may get some details wrong, if you find any issues like that, let me know
OK, Now that that’s out of the way, on to the actual idea!

“FULL METAL JACKET” INSPIRED VISMOD FOR THE M41A1

M4114

BACKGROUND:
“Full Metal Jacket” is a well-known movie for both good and bad reasons (I will not go into details, but if you’ve seen the movie, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about). But a few scenes stood out more than others. One of those was a scene that became famous for its use of the song “Surfing Bird” but something other than the music stood out to me in that scene as well: The M41 Walker Bulldogs.

The M41 is a light tank that was built not long after WWII that replaced the M24 Chaffee as the USA’s main light tank. The M41 was used from 1953 until 1969 and was used during the Vietnam War alongside M48s. The Movie Full Metal Jacket takes place during the Vietnam War and follows a soldier’s experiences during the war.

During the scenes featuring the M41’s they are being used as cover for soldiers advancing and can be seen carrying all kinds of bags, tarps, boxes, and equipment.

THE VISMOD:
The appearance of the M41 in the movie is very similar to how the M41 appeared during the real Vietnam War. As the crews often didn’t know what they would end up needing, they brought along all kinds of equipment with them, and they often ended up being used as infantry fire support. Due to that, they often carried some of the more bulky and heavier equipment for the infantry. While this would serve a purpose, it also acted on some occasions as a form of makeshift camo that could potentially help to obscure the tank in more urban environments.

However, it was not the most consistent form of concealment, and more often than not, the equipment mounted on the tank ended up just becoming a form of additional protection against small arms fire and some heavier weaponry (such as machine guns similar to the M2HB).

So you may be asking why we should add this to the game? Well, the way I see it is that this can help to make the M41 less distinctly recognizable as an M41, potentially helping to deceive/confuse potential enemies into mistaking you for another, much heavier tank, momentarily allowing you, in some cases, to escape. It could, in some situations, also help to conceal the tank better in more urban environments, and lastly, it looks cool. Some of you may also realize that some of the equipment isn’t actually strapped down to the turret in some of the images, So as an additional feature of the vismod it would be incredibly cool if some parts of it could actually react to movement and bumps, This would also help to give the tank a more lively appearance.

Now this wouldn’t provide any additional use other than for concealment and would not be extremely effective in most situations as concealment, but it could bait players into aiming for what they think may be a weak spot and giving you just that little bit more time to escape a dangerous situation.

And for a little clarification, this is a suggestion for a pure visual modification for it, which would hopefully, in some situations, conceal the true nature of the tank and allow for a more unique appearance.

Could make a pretty nice premium, similar to the M1 KVT

Oh, it wouldn’t be a vehicle, rather just a vismod modification for it, kinda like a camo net

June 4: added more images too.

Gaijin does not do this. If you notice that each specific variant of vehicles and “special” versions have differing details and layout of kit on them. This is specifically so that they are distinctive for game reasons (“fairness”). So this isn’t a valid justification for the mod. You should just sell it as a neato special vehicle.

The M41 is also standing in for M-48s. The Marines used Pattons not Bulldogs. So the mod would be “semi-historical”. Like the KMT so thats no biggie, just should be sold as “The FMJ tank” not actual Vietnam.

If Vietnam m41’s looked similar, they could model it off the FMJ one and have a “full metal jacket” title as a bonus and it could be pretty historical + nice reference

IIRC the M41s would have been all South Vietnamese IRL.

The US military as a whole never used a single bulldog in Vietnam?

They equipped the ARVN with them. The M41 was out of US active service by its involvement in Vietnam.

The M41 was indeed used during vietnam by the US, albeit in small numbers compared to the Pattons.

+1, the movie that made the Bulldog my favorite U.S. tank.

I forgot how large the Bulldog is…

Well, the jeep is also pretty small.
