At the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow, AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) displayed a modification scheme for the LS-6 modular guided bomb. The guidance scheme mainly consists of three components: the seeker, wings, and guidance tail pod. Specifically, the seeker can adopt laser or infrared guidance; the wings can be strake wings or folded wings; and the tail pod can be a conventional guidance set or a guidance set equipped with a turbo motor.
Currently, China is the only nation lacking IR FNF armaments for both helicopters and jets. In the next version, with the deployment of long-range air defense systems, China will face a shortage of effective long-range strike means. Therefore, it is recommended to equip suitable aircrafts with this series of guided bombs (LS-6 250kg/500kg bombs, with IR Seeker, Folded Wings and Turbo Motor) to enhance the CAS capabilities.
