HISTORY
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace is a leading Norwegian technology company wich is a part of Kongsberg Gruppen and is a direct continuation of Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk which was funded in 1814. When this company went through a composition and restructuring in 1987 due to it’s financial problems (including those related to the Toshiba case), the defense division was continued in a new company, Norsk Forsvarsteknologi (NFT), which then changed its name to Kongsberg Gruppen in 1995. Kongsberg Defence has since the 1990’s been developing remote weapon stations which has been sold to many different nations and been adopted on a number of vehicles trough the years. These weapon stations has been in continuous development, with new models being released every now and then and has underwent major changes.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has also collaborated with a number of other companies, in other to for example win contracts or to demonstrate their products and their possibilities. This specific vehicle, was an collaboration between Norwegian Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and the Canadian Magellan Aerospace, this was in an attempt to win an contract for the United States requested an offer for, but it never went anywhere and the system never left the testing stage. The purpose behind this was to have a highly mobile system to reach almost everywhere, in addition to being a Low Cost Precision Kill system, with cheap 70mm cvhr7 rockets/missiles which were made controllable by mounting a smart viewfinder. The idea was to reuse different types of viewfinder technology developed through the NSM project. This system is also fire both Hydra 70 and FZ90 rockets with a pg kit, making it very versatile with ammunition.
The vehicle is a 6x6 Polaris Ranger which has been modified with a platform instead of the trunk that were there before, and has been fitted with a Kongsberg Protector M151 Remote weapon station in the center of this. In the image above we can see the vehicle being test fired in Norway at Kongsberg’s own firing range at Hengsvann, if you look closely you can see the rws has clamps for 4x tubes. The reason only one tube is being used here is likely because of the testings, below is an image of this specific vehicle with 4 tubes. The vehicle has integrated command controls for the rws in the front of the atv. This was all done around 2004, the fate of the project and prototype is unknown. This vehcile is valid for both Norway and Canada, but this specific suggestion is for Norway.
IN GAME
In the game this could be a powerful and highly mobile tank destroyer, with a wide variation of warheads, it is very versatile against both heavier and lighter armored vehicles, it will even be useful against helicopters with its high speed and precision. It’s an ATV, so it will be very very agile, and can reach sones and tactical spots faster than most others. What br and rank this would be is hard to decide.
