Literally everyone; so where’s the explosive fillers gaijin?
Gaijin: ¯_(ツ)_/¯
i was sober while playing, was drinking during match though
its the literal major weakspot on the jumbo to the point of me killing a jumbo with the fox through it
I think the problem is twofold, first theres few enough HESH slingers around gaijin doesn’t necessarily see the need to dedicate resources to it and secondly I’m not sure we really want realistic HESH
I have the trial results of the Malkara missile which features a 8" HESH warhead with even more filler than the 183
Gonna put the 11 hit results in spoilers to not make a wall of images
Spoiler
11 hits with a massive HESH warhead resulted in 4 dead crew along with one shot cooking off ammo destroying the tank.
Over half the hits resulted in the conq still having the ability to fire with full effectiveness with several other hits giving it limited ability to still fight back.
ear injuries are ever present but overpressure killing the entire crew doesn’t really happen
HESH is good at damaging optics, jamming drives and gearboxes, shattering gauges, ripping external components off and the like, in real life these types of strikes would kill a tank as it can’t be repaired in the field by the crew inside but in WT that type of damage is a 20-30 second repair and back in action.
Why would hitting the machine gun port have an effect on a 183mm HESH shell lol
I can’t remember but did this missile have the induced spin to help the hesh spread? Also what’s with everyone saying the guys a bad player for aiming for the machine gun port with a 183mm hesh round? The round is big enough to cause hulls to crack open in the case of a round hitting a king tigers turret and it simply shattering (although this is late war German steel so I understand the lower quality metal). In game you can shoot a bmp from the front and all it would do is take outs it’s driver and engine, the problem is hesh either acts as an he shell or hesh shell but never both at the same time, this can cause light tanks to survive when they realistically shouldn’t. Someone else has posted this however I’m not sure if he’s made a suggestion so maybe we try and get this acknowledged first as it should help a lot more than trying to get gaijin to acknowledge he shells hitting a turret would cause the turret ring to buckle at the very minimum.
considering the amount of explosive irl it should kill it regardless. It’s like shooting a bomb at something. the machine gun port wouldn’t do anything other than set it off a split second sooner
I understand where you’re coming from. HESH wasn’t intended to obliterate the crew but to disable the tank. A reintroduction of the hull break mechanic to ground would help make War Thunders HESH work more realistically while also keeping the arcade-esque design needed to have weaponry like it to fit in the game
a small issue with your source is that this is a report from a test with the Malkara missile system, the HESH warhead wasn’t spinning and was a lot slower so the spread of plastic explosives was reduced in comparison to canon-based HESH. i also very much doubt a crew with burst eardrums and a driver missing a leg would be able to operate a tank, plus the report of bruised heads for the test dummies indicates they could be knocked unconscious
photos attached are from tests with FV4005 with some report documents, even by some miracle the crew was uninjured the targets are total write offs and most components would be unsalvagable

There’s actually partial video of the tests on YouTube
It’s on rail so no spin.
That might have been the third shot as you can see 3 impacts when it does the driving test.
it’s really cool that the footage from the test is online. A youtube channel called SY simulations has done some very good in depth simulations of what FV4005 could have done to tanks, id say it gives a better insight into the destructive capabilities of hesh
Yeah I get what you are saying.
It’s why I’ve been so mixed on what should actually be done, you’ve got the tiger II tests which (iirc) was a early varient without the latelate war poor quality steel that got absolutely eviscerated by hesh with some insanely large and heavy scabs, some tests where tanks got crippled beyond ability to retreat or fight and other tests where the tank was in fighting shape (I recall one hit against a test range conq where the scab generated by the hit got captured and contained by a armored conduit sleeve on the inside of the hull where the impact happened) after the hit.
In regards to crew injuries I’m kinda in a wait and see approach to see what gaijin does with the roadmap proposed crew stunning mechanic they were testing as that sounds like it’d mesh well with hesh as yeah that’d at the minimum stun the crew to some degree.
I’ve occasionally considered a permanent damage mechanic where components get permanently broken after sustaining a catastrophic amount of damage but that feels like it’ll buff CAS more than hesh slingers and I’m not sure how receptive the playerbase would be to becoming a pillbox when half the suspension gets ripped off permanently
if damage mechanics were contained to specific ammunition types it wouldn’t buff CAS, I would very much like to see a catastrophic mechanic too (hull break but more detailed) there’s been many many cases where I’ve been tracked and lost my gun but survived 30+ hits from HE slingers which really should have chiselled away at my tank until it disintegrated, yes it would make those situations which feel great to survive rarer but wouldn’t be a frustrating way to die
Its the opposite of a weakspot to a fv4005. You’re not driving a fox. Don’t aim on the worst part of your armor that you see because the armor is the thing that creates the spalling. How hard can that be?
I’m not quite sure your getting the point, yes due to gaijins fuckery and all that it probably was a bad idea to aim for that spot. However irl that would have blown the additional armour clean of the tank and concussing the entire crew unlucky enough to be in the big echo chamber. And most likely dented or collaps the relatively thing armour of the up front plate of the jumbo. The point being this round is not as good as it realistically should be, in both balance wise and realism wise.
Regardless the issue is very small if you can blow up the sherman by hitting it easily in the center of mass instead of 4 pixels. There is not much importance to fix an issue that can be fixed by user aiming at almost anywhere but the 4 pixels. It can’t be that hard.
Only if all engagement range is below 200m then you can always select where to hit bro
Make 12 test shots at 300m against the sherman. Aim center of mass and tell me how many of them hit the mg port dealing no damage. Record it all and don’t cut any of the shots out.
The idea that its hard to not hit a 4 pixel mg port is non sense.
Nobody saying it’s hard, it just shouldn’t happen if you do hit that 4-pixel area. Don’t be deliberately obtuse just because you want an argument that no one is making.
Gaijin has better things to do than fix something that isn’t a real issue just to cater to anyone who doesn’t realize they can just shoot almost anywhere else rather than the 4 pixel mgport. And if they fail they would probably realize that afterwards their first shot. Not a big issue enough to be something that matters.
Jesus, who slept with your wife man. Don’t have to be a dick about it. Heah in this game is under performing, that’s a fact. You can have your own opinion on it but damn do you hate players for wanting not to be punished for accidentally going 1mm too far to the left of a tank and then having to wait 40 seconds for a follow up shot….
