Please for the Love of God Fix the FV4005

Electronics aren’t modeled in Warthunder, so knocking out electronics with it is out. Knocking turrets loose from their rings also can’t happen in Warthunder so that is out. The “scab” type of spalling isn’t modeled in game, I can’t speak on if it CAN be modeled. The shockwave damage is present in overpressure damage though.

I get that it is frustrating that HESH doesn’t work like it does in real life, but only so much can be done within the confines of Warthunder. Right now, I could see the 4005 killing anything as long as you hit any side of the turret or front/side of a tank that it can penetrate. Larger tanks like the Tiger 2H need to be hit in the turret to overpressure the whole crew, as it won’t do it from a direct hit to the UFP. If you treat it like an HE shell with actual penetration values (like being able to pen side armor instead of just detonating) then you should be very successful with it.

The electronic circuit boards may not be modelled but the functions of the electronics are, the stabilisers, assisted turret traverse, semi-automatic gearboxes and autoloaders are there and could be damaged and have their capability hindered or disabled after a HESH hit. i understand the time it would take to make such a thing function in-game for a shell type that is rarely used in many a case would be high. my main gripe with HESH is that even when you hit a target in a place that should be a guaranteed kill ( turret of a BMP2 for example) doesn’t always kill the target if the FV4005 was at predictable with its damage output its in-game limitations can be played around, learning how to do that is the only way anyone even gets past 3.0 in the British tree after all. all I want is consistency in its damage even if it means it is quite obviously weaker than the real-life counterpart

That kind of modeling may not even be possible with the current engine. I can’t say much about things being consistent, this is Warthunder and inconsistency is a key feature. Nothing will ever be consistent in this game because of the complexity. I can pretty confidently say that Gaijin isn’t going to put massive amounts of effort into making HESH and basically the one tank is known for it much better than it already is.

Gameplay wise it is good enough anyway.

i believe that kind of modelling is, I’ll use the semi-automatic gearbox as an example, it could have a simple cube as its hurt box and once it has taken appropriate damage you are stuck in the current gear, sort of like how you can still sort of move when your gearbox is broken but you don’t have parts unlocked yet.

I will say that after playing Enlisted today with some friends I appreciate the lack of jank inconsistency in this game but its still quite annoying that there appear to be unspoken of pointless variables making many things about the game like rolling a die in a game of DnD

when i bring it to 11.3 it certainly is with all the paper tanks the soviets and germans have

So a 183mm HESH is supposed to bounce off the armor of a Sherman?

Shit happens every now and then, I’m sure most of the time you will just obliterate a sherman. Sometimes my sturmtiger shells hit tanks and don’t kill them but that is very rare and not a reason to cry about something as if it was completely useless and broken, <1% of shots.

i dont think they meant that, more than likely their experiences with huge shells involve Sturmtiger which has enough explosive filler to counteract the inconsistencies

Oh they counteract the inconsistencies until they don’t. Like i said i shot at a tank and that tank was undamaged by it. Sometimes “rng” trash happens and that is fine, we can’t hold our expectations to a degree where we cry about something that happens rarely, it’s impossible not to have such rare inconsistencies exist in a game like this.

shermans and most other tanks will be completely decimated 80% of the time. the sturmtiger just has a significantly larger amount of explosive to compensate

Sounds good to me. With good aiming, that number can probably be raised to 95%?

I also like the fact that most of you here who commented have a record that says you didn’t even play the FV4005 yourselves, and proceed to shit on OP telling him he do it wrong or you can do better, while yourselves doesn’t even have experience playing this particular vehicle and ammunition type to find it is wonky enough and need a fix. I honestly can’t trust anyone who says they could do better or claims they understand the problem if they hadn’t even played the vehicle themselves lmao

I’m grinding for it however what i said is likely true. You aren’t really going to be bouncing your shells off a sherman unless if you aimed as if you were drunk.

after lord knows how many hours ive sank into this game I’m a decent enough shot, may I ask if you have at least spaded the FV4005 to have experience with the predicament it is in?

Reading comprehension please.

the shells arent bouncing, they are just having voids of no damage which appear to be random, a perfect shot will often be punished by it

Then i would be happy if the other person did not misinform me on the issue.

It is super wonky, if WT claims they are trying to be as realistic as possible, a 183mm HESH to the machinegun port area of a Sherman shouldn’t have failed to kill it, it would be more acceptable if yall says it’s subjected to RNG bullshit, it wasn’t even OP fault that the Sherman ate the shot lol try shoot the same spot again it will kill the Sherman, the protection analysis is not accurate at all.

Regardless, i think this is such a minor issue. It is more easy to hit any part of the tank instead of the machine gun. I don’t think it matters, just don’t aim for the 4 bad pixels. If the inconsistencies are regular with the 183mm hesh with perfect shots, i would assume this to be a bigger shot.
Since both of you probably have the fv4005, can you record 50 of your matches so we can compile some consistency statistics of how the shells work. And by that i mean 50 matches without handpicking the ones with inconsistencies and leaving out the ones without.
