I always wondered why in this game the top speeds for jets is between 1400 and 1600kmh, while in reality most of the cold war and post cold war planes do reach over mach 2 that is 2,468 km/h. I dont say speed increase is needed, but maybe how the speed is displayed?
Only at very high altitude π€¦ββοΈ
The main reason why is because of the map sizes in the game. the matches would be almost unplayable if they were able to go at max speed of the real aircraft at any height, from my knowledge the game tries to take in account that height, in the air affects the speed of an aircraft like in real life, due to air density.
Speed of sound decreases with altitude.
Mach 2 at sea level is 2446.203 kph
at 30k ft its more like 2124.334 kph.
It just continues down like that. Also absolute max speeds rarely take into account loadouts, like missiles, bombs or even ammo for the guns.
In-game they probably can go those speeds but at alts you are unlikely to ever go to in a match and without any loadout
As others have said - air density at lower altitude greatly increases drag so the planes canβt fly as fast, and also the speed of sound is higher at warmer temperatures (ie ground level vs 40,000 ft) so mach numbers at any given absolute speed are lower.
