Hello everyone and welcome to this new suggestion.

Today I’m presenting a rather unusual vessel, as it’s not yet in service: the new offshore patrol vessel Trolley de Prévaux.

Since the end of World War II, the French armed forces have relied on a significant number of patrol vessels to patrol the various French Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs). Indeed, the number of small zones makes the use of combat ships difficult. To address this, numerous classes of vessels have been created, including offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). The class currently used by the French Navy is the d’Estiennes d’Orves class (Aviso A69), but this class of vessel, commissioned during the 1970s and 80s, is aging. Consequently, the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) officially ordered a new series of seven vessels in 2023 to replace them.

Naval Group was tasked with designing the vessel and overseeing the project for the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA). This preliminary phase began in 2020 and was finalized in 2023 with the official order, resulting in larger ships than their predecessors with significantly modernized equipment. Construction was awarded to several shipyards: Chantier PIRIOU, CMN, and SOCARENAM, which will produce two, two, and three ships respectively. For the moment, only seven ships have been ordered; however, the French Navy has indicated its possible intention to order three more, bringing the total number of patrol boats to ten.

The first ship of this class is the Trolley de Prévaux, laid down in 2024 by the Piriou shipyard in Concarneau. The ship’s hull was completed the following year, and it was launched on February 6, 2026. It is expected to be delivered soon to Naval Group for the installation of its various weapons and combat systems. The ship is expected to be delivered by the end of the year and will enter service with the French forces in early 2027. Four other ships are currently under construction, one at each shipyard.

The ship, like all those of its class, will be named in honor of men and women who played a significant role in the French Resistance during the Second World War. This first unit was therefore named in honor of Trolley de Prévaux, rear admiral of the French navy who led a resistance network transmitting information to the allies in preparation for the landing in Provence and was shot by the Germans in 1944.

There is currently little additional information to add about this vessel; however, I intend to update this post as the ship’s construction and service progress.

Characteristics

Length : 92.00 m

Width : 14.20 m

Draft : 3.80 m

Mass : 2400 tons

The vessel has hybrid propulsion (diesel and electric) allowing it to reach a speed of 21 knots. Its range is estimated at 6,000 nautical miles and 30 days at sea.

The maximum crew consists of 84 sailors.

Equipment

Currently, little information is available regarding the ship’s various detection systems; however, thanks to the infographic published by the French Navy, we have some information.

Radar :

  • NS54 4D AESA multi-function radar (note 1)
  • 2 x navigation and surveillance radar

Sonar :

  • BLUEWATCHER hull-mounted sonar

Optic :

  • VIGY 4 electro-optical system (note 2)
  • 2 surveillance camera

ECM / Decoys :

  • HYDRA 300 C-UAS (note 3)

Other :

In addition to this equipment, the ship can also carry various vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, including a Guépard helicopter and Airbus VSR700 UAS drones.

Note 1 : This radar is the same as the one installed on the last mine warfare vessels delivered to Belgium and the Netherlands. It is an I-band radar usable both sea-to-sea and sea-to-air.

Note 2 : The Safran Vigy 4 is a lightweight, stabilized electro-optical system that allows observation of desired targets in the visible and IR (SWIR and MWIR) spectra, as well as determining their distance and designating them with a laser rangefinder.

Note 3 : The Hydra 300 is not strictly speaking a countermeasure system, but it enables the detection of all types of short-range drones and thus contributes to the ship’s defense system. Antennas are visible on the bow and sides of the ship.

Weapons

At present, little information is available regarding the ship’s various weapon systems; however, thanks to the infographic published by the French Navy, we have some information.

Guns :

  • 1 x 40mm Rapidfire canon (note 4)
  • 2 x 12.7mm machine gun

Other :

  • Simbad/RC missile lancher (note 5)

Note 4 :The 40mm Rapidfire turret was developed by CTAS (KNDS System). It is a multi-role, remotely operated turret capable of engaging all types of tanks with a wide variety of shells (APFSDS, HE, HE-VT, etc.). It is a variant of the gun found in the game on the Jaguar and Ajax.

Note 5 : The Simbad/RC is an air defense system developed by MBDA based on the Mistral 3 anti-aircraft missile. It is a remotely operated turret containing two missiles that can be used against aerial targets (aircraft, helicopters, drones) and against munitions.

This ship is obviously not meant to be added to the game immediately; however, should more modern ships become available, this one would be a particularly interesting addition to the French tech tree, providing an extremely modern vessel equipped with all the latest technologies and capable of engaging various targets at close range.

Cool modern boat concerning the heli pad with modern ships having them it would be nice to be able to fly off with one and use it to collect information or for the future attack subs would be nice. Also it looks slightly stealthy so her radar cross-section may be less but that wont change much as its not full of anti-ship missiles.
