[Would you like to see this in-game?]
TL;DR: A big fat MRAP with a stabilized RWS equipped with a 40mm AGL.
Disclaimer: This is not a suggestion to add the Peacekeeper PRV to the low-tiers of a ground tree. One of the main purposes of this suggestion is to convey that this vehicle, and the countless others like it, can absolutely perform at more appropriate, higher, BRs. (i.e. 8.0~).
History:
Getting troops from point A to point B is one of the most important and standard roles any modern military needs to have dedicated vehicles for. How these vehicles looked and behaved varies widely depending on where it fit into the overall military structure. For more intense duties, most militaries use armored personnel carriers or APCs. While there was some experimentation with dedicated APCs in WW2, the renaissance for the vehicle class wouldn’t be until a few years after the war when militaries had a chance to review and apply the lessons learned. A few decades later, Cadillac Gage would produce the Commando APC, a fast, relatively small, and highly adaptable design. The vehicle was an instant success both domestically, with the US adopting its V-100 version as M706, and internationally. The vehicle would see service with over 30 countries in over 15 conflicts. Singapore was one such country, purchasing not only the V-100 version but also specifically requesting an improved model based on their needs. The resulting vehicle would come to be known as V-200 and would enter Singaporean service in 1968. The V-200 would serve Singapore well for decades, with many being converted into air defense vehicles fitted with the Swedish RBS 70. Of course, their age continued to show more and more as the years went on and it was clear that, by the early 2010s, a replacement was in order. Instead of going through the length process of designing and developing a new vehicle from scratch, Singapore instead decided to purchase the French HIGUARD 6x6 MRAP APC from Renault Trucks Defence and modify it to their needs. The modifications would be jointly developed by the Singaporean Army and the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), with Renault Trucks Defense presumably handling production since there does not appear to be any evidence of local production. These modifications included Singaporean communication equipment, additional security and surveillance equipment, and, most notably, a fully stabilized RWS. This modified HIGUARD would enter service in July of 2015 under the name of Peacekeeper Protected Response Vehicle and would gradually replace all of the V-100, V-150, and V-200 fleet by 2016, although it is assumed that V-200s modified for air defense remained in service. As the name suggests, the Peacekeeper PRV is intended for internal security and anti-terrorist duties as opposed to frontline troop transport. Its MRAP nature protects it from IED and the modern RWS gives it far superior reactive capability compared to the V-200. The RWS can be configured in three ways depending on the situation: 7.62mm MG, 12.7mm HMG, and 40mm AGL. The 40mm AGL used is Singapore’s own domestically developed NATO standard STK 40. It is capable of firing all NATO standard 40x53mm ammunition including M430A1, which is capable of penetrating up to 76mm of armor, and XM1176 or MK285 programable airburst grenades. The RWS is fully stabilized and fitted with thermals and a laser rangefinder, allowing the vehicle to react to threats the second they appear and protect its troop complement of 10. 110 Peacekeeper PRVs serve with the Singaporean military to this day.
Place In War Thunder:
Automatic grenade launchers as a vehicle’s main weapon is an understandably controversial topic when it comes to their possible implementation into the game, however, it must be noted that this is largely due to one main factor: misunderstandings and lack of knowledge of the penetration capabilities of HEDP grenades. These misunderstandings combined with a poor muzzle velocity makes many people assume that a vehicle equipped only with an automatic grenade launcher would have to be placed at an uncomfortably low BR to be effective. Fortunately, this really isn’t the case. M430A1 HEDP can penetrate up to 76mm of armor. Pair this with a decently quick wheeled platform with a bunch of empty space and what you get is essentially an autocannon carrier that just needs to get closer to its target. And even if you don’t get closer you have zero distance-based penetration drop off. There is no reason why vehicles equipped solely with AGLs would not be able to perform at suitable BRs in War Thunder. Playstyle would be rather unique, however, not completely unfamiliar. The Peacekeeper PRV would essentially like any other wheeled autocannon carrier. The main difference, again, is the required distance from your target to actually cause damage being much MUCH smaller, almost right on top of them, essentially promoting an incredibly suicidal playstyle. That being said, once you do get within range, you will not struggle to penetrate foe you may face, with your 76mm of pen fired from a stabilized weapon at up to 500rpm and thermal imagers. Placement for the vehicle is where it gets interesting. France would be the most logical since the Peacekeeper PRV is just a modified HIGUARD, however, Gaijin has not listed France as one of the homes for future Singaporean vehicles. Gaijin’s current candidates are Israel and Japan. Both of these countries don’t appear to have stabilized AGL carrier options so it could really go either way, however, again, France would be the most logical choice regardless. Since the Peacemaker PRV is in widespread service, implementing it as a tech tree vehicle wouldn’t be unexpected, however, due to its admittedly gimmicky nature, seeing it as an event or squadron vehicle would be fine too.
