caid’s suggestion #178
i would like to suggest a rather unique tank, the Swiss Panzerjäger 90
the Panzerjäger 90 or Pzj 90, is a Swiss tank hunter built on the base of the piranha II armoured car.
the Pzj 90 was a the vehicles chosen from a program initiated in the early 80s to find a tank hunter in replacement of the Steyr Puch 700 AP Haflinger armed with the BANTAM anti-tank missiles. the BANTAM was by them obsolete; it was slow, easy to dodge and the modern armor was capable of taking the hit without issue. the Swiss wanted something more modern, more mobile, and more powerful. having introduced the Piranha I armored car into service, the Swiss looked to adapt the vehicles to their need by mounting a missile launcher on it. initially developing the Panzerjäger 85, this vehicle saw a small production of 59 vehicles in 1984 before being upgraded to the Panzerjäger 90 in 1989. the Panzerjäger 90 was mounting a new turret, the Norwegian Kværner Eureka TOW launcher. this turret was more advanced as it carried two missiles and had advanced optics while the Panzerjäger 85 was simply a field TOW launcher installed on the hull. a total of 310 vehicles were built, including the Panzerjäger 85 been converted to Panzerjäger 90. those serve the Swiss army for the following decades. in 2015, the Swiss still had 100 of those vehicles in service.
Firepower
the armament is the BGM-71 TOW. mounted in a dual mount of the Kværner Eureka ALT turret. this turret offer advanced optic, including night vision and thermal image. the turret is powered offering a speed of 55° sec and an elevation of -12° to + 15°. the vehicles have 2 ready-to-fire to fire missiles and 8 more stored inside the vehicles. the reload normally takes 45 sec but I assume Gaijin will give it the same reload of the M901 for balance purposes. the Swiss use the TOW 2 BGM-71D missiles and BGM-71F with tandem warheads making it capable of penetrating reactive armor. in normal situations, this vehicle can deal with all targets as long it can hit them. this turret also includes a thermal camera and a night vision.
Mobility
these vehicles are powered by a Chrysler V8 petrol engine HT 413 offering 200 hp (often mistaken for the Detroit Diesel 6V-53T used on the Piranha III but this vehicle is the Piranha IB 6x6 also known as Piranha II and not the Piranha III, the Piranha III was introduced in 1994 which is 5 years after the Panzerjäger 90 and 10 years after the Panzerjäger 85) this allows the 11 tonnes vehicles to reach the good speed of 80 km/h on road. the vehicles have an Allison MT 653 with 5 forward speed and 1 reverse. the power-weight ratio of 18.18 hp tonnes makes it a pretty fast vehicle on the road and off-road.
protection
these vehicles feature very little protection. armored jsut against sharpnel and small arms, this vehicle will be penetrated by anything larger than an LMG. it is also fairly tall and large. this vehicle is not easy to hide. but the turret is remotely controlled and a good player will find a way to only expose the turret when fighting. this turret is much smaller and can fire over the hill. the crew of 5 men includes a gunner, commander, driver, and 2 loaders.
