This is the closest that you can get, if you want to know why, it’s because the project was cut short.
Again, that’s Panther 8.8cm not Panther II. Panther II project was cancelled before this was even designed.
The project to place an 88mm cannon is a project that was made for the Panther F. The Panther 2 project had already been canceled a long time ago.
You can see this even in the image you sent, it’s nothing more than a turret version of the F version.
panther 2 with 88mm cannon is fake.
Yeah, it’s a schmallturm, great eyes.
@Jarms
You guys are literally just punching yourself in the fact at this point.
Here’s more irrefutable proof of the 8.8 being planned:
The Panther 2 and Panther 88 designs are completely different, and trying to argue with you is a waste of time and is completely missing the point of the discussion, which is the REAL Panther 2.
Oh look, it’s literally the one from WT. Anyone can make these line drawings.
Hilary Doyle is a tank historian who’s been writing for decades.
This whole Panther 2 story would be linked to the turret project with an 88mm cannon, it was nothing more than a mistake by a historian who, after a few years (many in fact), corrected himself towards the end of the 90s)
Panther II was never intended to use an 88 of any sort, and there is no evidence to support that notion. It was believed to have been proposed for the Panther II project due to a translation error on the part of Walter Spielberger. He swiftly corrected that mistake and released an updated version of his book in 1999. That should have been the end of the story; alas it proved to be too popular of a subject, and here we are.
That said, regarding this turret, as seen in this image, from what I recall, it was initially intended to have been the Panther II turret, but the design was nowhere near finished by the time the Pather II was canceled. Despite that, Rheinmetall continued to design it and resubmitted it as a new Panther I turret in November 1943. So this is about the closet you’ll ever get to what the Panther II may have looked like.
Not really tho. They added them as a way to balance germany a long time ago against high rank russian tanks which otherwise would have stomped. Personally the tanks dont bother me because they are heavily based off of the E series of tanks the panther 2 being an E-50 and the 10.5 tiger 2 being the E-75. So they were designed in game within a realm of plausibility. Looking at Eseries blueprints they are very similar. Honestly I dont mind tanks existing that werent built, as long as blue prints exist to back them up i think its fine as long as obviously the physics are modeled accordingly. Personally i think the panther 2 is a tank that introduces players very well into MBT play styles.
I acknowledged the panther 2 was never real. Whats the point youre tryi g to make?
Unintentional placeholder.
The US was testing the turret and the gun on this random hull cause they had no hulls to test with.
I was responding to the other argument about the validity of the 88 on the Panther
It would also be much slower. Imagine a Pershing Panther.
Basically 52t with 600 HP engine with bad reverse speed.
Might as well play the Jadgpanther instead.
So the Panther II would be kinda pointless in-game, both because it never was finalized with a turret and because it wouldn’t really improve anything.
That’s pretty much the reason why the project was canceled.
The Panther 1 was good enough to warrant the production of a new Panther that would just make the already heavy Panther even heavier.
The 88 was proposed but again, pointless without some additional rework, since the Panther F turret was simply too small to allow the crew to effectively use the gun.
It would require a larger turret ring and a turret with ready racks for the huge shells.
Much more promising was the KwK 44/2, which would have greatly increased the firepower of the Panther by giving a 5 round auto-loading magazine.
Other than that. Some engine improvements could be a realistic upgrades:

Spoiler
This. There’s tons of potential faster Panther variants that could go between 6.3 and 6.7.
From memory there was a Panther G with the HL234.
Other than that. Some engine improvements could be a realistic upgrades:
Agreed, the Maybach HL 234 was only a few months off from production by the time the war ended, though the production model would have been capped to 850HP and not 900 like the 234 currently does in game, this info comes from a US interrogation of Maybach and its main research engineer.
Not just that, a Panther was tested with what was likely a stabilizer inspired by the American vertical stabilizers from examples the Germans captured and stabilized gun sights. Though there is no way of knowing what model of Panther was tested, the stabilization for the gun and sight were being developed for the Panther series as a whole.
Ooohhhh i see my mistake lol
Honestly fascinating, but the discussion was on allowing the user to determine if they wanted the NVG to be removable (by uninstalling the modification) and a potential (not super necessary) turret traverse speed increase.
