Description: The Pandur II is an Austrian-Portuguese APC designed for versatile roles. This variant is equipped with the SP30 turret, transforming it into an IFV, currently used only by the Portuguese Army.

History: The acquisition of the Pandur II 8x8 armored vehicle by Portugal was a troubled process, marked by delays, cancellations, and renegotiations. In the 2000s, the Portuguese Army needed to replace its aging Chaimite armored vehicles with a modern and modular alternative. In 2005, the government signed a contract with the Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch a subsidiary of General Dynamics European Land Systems for the purchase of 260 Pandur II 8x8 vehicles, in a deal worth 364 million euros. The initial production was to take place in Vienna, but a significant portion of the manufacturing and assembly was planned to be carried out in Portugal through the company Fabrequipa. However, the delivery of the vehicles faced multiple delays, and technical issues were reported in those that were received. In 2012, due to non-compliance with the contract, the Portuguese government canceled the order, leaving the Army with only 182 Pandur II vehicles. Additionally, Portugal received financial compensation and maintenance guarantees for the remaining units.
