Since the big man himself announced during the last dev stream, that fox-3 missiles are coming in the
major update after the next one, are we going to get Tornado CSP the no data-link one in the next major update, since it will be the last one for it not to be completely doa?
That recent increase in skyflash’s proximity fuse distance was supposed to be a buff, but it’s not that simple, since now more often that not you are getting “Hit” or maybe a harmless critical on a good day, especially in scenarios, that are not a perfect head-on, because the damage profile of the missile was made around the old proximity fuse range. So can our benevolent devs be bothered with such trifle matter, or are they so busy with much more important things as they usually are? (maybe they are working themselves to the bone as I type it, tirelessly writing that new code that is pivotal for the Tornado’s fm fix, which absolutely cannot be done without it)
In game the warhead explodes at the point when the distance between the missile and target is closest. Therefore, those hits and criticals would not have been kills with the old proximity fuse. The missile would have simply never detonated at all.
Oh no, i saw CSP. Im leaving.
F3 upgrades terminology
CSP is Capability Sustainment Programme, it added ability to fire AMRAAM(no datalink) and ASRAAM, added ability to engeage multiple targets at once, improved resistance to ECM, software and hardware upgrade,
AOP is AMRAAM Optimisation Programme, it added datalink,
FSP is F3 Sustainment Programme, it fixed all problem found in the AOP, allowed for AMRAAM C5 and ASRAAM FOC2 firing, software and hardware upgrade.
All of you who wish for CSP i will reserve a spot in hell
On a serious note though, I still don’t understand how a Tornado with non F&F AMRAAMs (that is what no data-link would mean in game, right?) and say sidewinders M on 11.7 would be somehow worse than the one we already have, which has to fight top tier 9 out of 10 matches anyway. And I personally would prefer a british jet in a british tree over a copy-paste swedish one
They will not be F&F. The normal AMRAAM works like that. You fire it using either lock or TWS, it guides itself using your data untill it gets in range of its own radar, and then turns it on and stops using DL. IF we get tornado CSP(no DL) the missile will not be able to correct itself to the target, and will simply fly to its last known location(that it got during launch). The plane most likely wont be there, so you wasted a shot. So it would be like Firing Hellfire K (even tho it is still not working how it should, fix when?) Or R27ER. The missile gets data where to go at the start, and when it loses the data (hellfire laser tuned off, R27 lose of radar lock, AMRAAM lose of TWS/Lock or no datalink) it will fly to the last location that was marked for it, if something is there or not it is not missile problem.
So can AMRAAM be guided like a SARH missile with a lock till hit or not, that’s the question (from your post I assume it can?). If it can be used this way, then it will be at least a range upgrade over SkyflashST, which is worth it already. If it can’t be used without mid-course upgrade at all, then yes, it will be useless in game.
Well, to the point. It takes the data from your plane (radar) untill it gets in range of its own radar. If it will update itself even when in range of its own radar idk, depend how it is made in game
No it gets prelaunch guidance commands and then relies on DL for midcourse updates until the missile is able to track on its own. Without the DL it would only get prelaunch guidance and could be defeated by a slight turn away from the last known course.
So then would Active SF have a joint SARH and ARH antenna or would it work the same as the 120?
Considering it was before the 120’s were decided to be used in the CSP.
It would actually work similar to the AMRAAM without DL, prelaunch guidance until it can lock itself. But given the seeker range of the time you would be able fire it under its own guidance between ~10-20km which is around the ranges you’d use SuperTEMP. You could fire at longer ranges and hope the IOG would get it to the right location but it would be gamble.
I’d like it for our current F.3 and maybe as a starter missile for the AOP/FSP which should absolute be a new aircraft in the tree, purely because the grind from Skyflash TEMP to AMRAAM would be hell.
