Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

There is talk the MIG-29A/G were not able to use R-27ER… and this could be corrected.

From what I understand, the german Mig-29s currently run the export variant of the missile. The only problem is that Germany never got the export missile as they rejoined west Germany before the missile even entered into service. For the first Mig-29, It recieved the R-27ER instead of R-73 with the assumption that when R-73 was added, R-27ER was to be removed. As they appear to have made the decision to add a second Mig-29 instead of update the first one, The first mig-29 should probably be left with R-27ERs but the Mig-29G should have them removed, but for some reason has been left.

i am so gonna use the current situation to justify giving german typhoon brimstones since they are able to equip them as well, was just a software update all typhoons received

Yep, some uniqueness will be nice. But Brimstones wouldnt be a big issue. Though even if they just gave the ability for UK ones to carry more prehaps? Im not sure. But definetly split things like Taurus vs Storm Shadow

well Uk ones have the IRST system while german ones doesnt, so there is that as well

Don’t forget the harrier GR.7 still lacks an ejector seat…

Yeah there is that too. Which is going ot be helpful as SB is probably going to UK Typhoons vs German and Italian Typhoons if we ever get Typhoons in game

Yeah… but missing slats among other missing features for the Tornado would have signifcant impacts on the aircrafts performance, Missing animations like that whilst nice, dont really impact the game much.

The current Tornado Gr1 in my opinion, is barely, just barely an 11.3 aircraft. Once full finished, with all its capabilities correctly modelled, maybe with a small AAM buff, it could be an 11.7 worthy airframe. Thats just how much is missing from the aircraft currently, but there seems to be no desire to actually finish the aircraft

besides that the differences between IRIS T and ASRAAM, there is plenty of differences, just dont ask me about italian ones no idea about those

Pretty sure Italian ones just carry AMRAAM and ASRAAM

no meteor? sucks to be them

Just checked. they did their first test fires only a while ago for the meteor but they’re slowly getting them.

If GR.1s had their correct speed performance (with no inexplicable thrust loss), countermeasures that actually launch outwards (pretty dumb that they stay behind the aircraft), and AIM-9Li or AIM-9M it would actually be fun to play.

Yeah it doesn’t need a lot of love, just some.

It’s not even some - it’s as simple as modelling the few things it does have correctly (e.g the countermeasures pods that CLEARLY point outwards. they should be launching countermeasures outwards.)

Yeah, my current list of missing features for the Gr1 are:

  • No chaff
  • No ECM
  • No ground radar
  • No de-chirped rails
  • Aim-9L/I (maybe)
  • Thrust issues
  • Missing slats
  • CM launch angles
  • Missing loadout options (ALARM, Sea Eagle, Paveway II, Cluster bombs and Cluster munitions)

So much that could be done, but no desire to do so apparently

Instead all the priority goes to new jets for the major nations…

Yep, Im hoping some of these features will now be worked on as part of the F-111 and we may see them in the future when they can be bothered to C&P them over to the Tornados

I’m more concerned that they’ll be forgotten, like the Lightning F.6 which still can’t perform it’s manual-directed interception climb or reach it’s top speed at altitude, or the SRAAM which just doesn’t work (meanwhile they fixed the thrust vectoring on the R73 within like a week)

yeah… SRAAMs are apparently being worked on, but last we heard was about 4 months ago and they still havent had a single bug fix applied to them
