ASRAAM/IRIS-T is a missile used by the Tornado family. It’s pretty on topic

Ah, but you see, the AIM 9X you are so focused on is not remotely relevant to the Tornado.

You can create a thread regarding the introduction of 9X to the A10 instead of sooking here. If being related purely by tangent makes it on topic, I could bring up MICA IR. But that is not how on topic works. If you wish to have this discussion, open a thread for it.

I really do not care for this debate if you cannot grasp this, as it will only cause me tedium.

The topic is more. What could other nations get if the GR4 got ASRAAM

Jesus, dude.

1 stop being so condescending and realise I don’t care about the US. I’m on the Tornado page and have been for months.

  1. You have to consider what analogues other nations will get before you try and pitch a new weapon system that may cause imbalance.

  2. I don’t think ASRAAM or IRIS-T on the ground strike Tornado would be overpowered right now considering we have the F-15E or the Su-34 have ARHM missiles and the flight performance to evade.

Again, if being related purely by tangent makes it on topic, we could discuss the fact that MICA IR (memory fuzzy if versions of this are imaging) should be brought on to the new M2K. There is nothing condescending in highlighting that this discourse is better suited to a discussion focused on the introduction of new IR missiles, and cannot be reasonably addressed in this topic.

If you think IRIS-T or ASRAAM would not currently be questionable additions in the current climate, I think you lack familiarity with the systems and their defeat mechanisms (Currently lacking, Gaijin needs to address this before their addition). Which is partially why it would be significantly more effective to have a topic of discussion focusing on these new IR missiles, and the platforms that can carry them. We can highlight what Tornado can receive and such, sure, but an actual discussion on the weaponry and equivalents would be better suited to a different thread.

I am tired, so this may be more blunt than intended, but to my mind this is quite reasonable.

Honestly, adding the MICA IR to the game would make sense, especially since the planes equipped with it are strike fighters that only carry two. It wouldn’t make them overpowered but would give them a fair shot in mixed battles. Having more threads focused specifically on adding these new IR missiles could be test to them coming on fighters like m2k5f and Rafal and ef2000 ect… and streamline these discussions and highlight the unique role each missile plays without derailing other topics. So, I’d argue the MICA IR or asraam is a balanced addition in seines that they are only on boat fighters and only 2 of them just like r73 with su25 that should be considered

Yeah, planes that have a primary role as a strike aircraft should be able to better defend themselves against planes which are multiple or dedicated fighters, especially in ground RB.

As such, planes like the Mirage 2000D and Tornado really should get ASRAAM. Same for how early strike aircraft got lass aspect misisles at BRs where most planes had rear aspect only.

Its tricky. In a compressed gamemode like GRB, a Tornado Gr4 with 2x ASRAAM vs F-15E with up-to 8x AMRAAM is an easy balance to consider and it almost seems needed.

But in Air modes, ASRAAM would innevetiably result in a higher BR and they are already going to struggle at 12.3. ASRAAM wont change that much Id reckon, at least not without other major buffs, like full strength BOL and even Sky Shadow. Let alone the fact that ARB is not well designed for strike aircraft currently

I hope the GR4 gets ASRAAM in the future, but the game isnt quite ready for it yet

ASRAAM isn’t going to ever have it’s real world performance. Gaijin would balance it “appropriately” The Magic 2 in game isn’t even close to how it should act.

The end of the day even in an Air RB environment 2 ASRAAMS on a GR.4 has the potential to net you 2 kills. Tornados are hardly going to be OP with ASRAAM.

Yeah, but should still provide an upgrade over the Aim-9M. Both in terms of range and off-boresight potential. Assuming the seeker wasnt too hard to defeat, id still see it going to 13.0 ish and at that BR, its gunna struggle to reliably get any bases. Especially if its racing F-15Es and Su-34s to bases

It likely would perhaps a blend between the R-24Ts range and the R-73/Magic 2. Which would be nice.

But even with a reliable 15mile IR missile…The F-15s and F-16s in game can defeat it kinematically. It’s on a barely supersonic bomber. The lock on after launch feature wont be incorporated

Makes me wonder if they will add datalink GPS functionality to the relevant Paveways’ at some point.

Raytheon Demonstrates Enhanced Paveway II Data Link Capability

“Two Enhanced Paveway IIs were dropped from a United Kingdom Royal Air Force (RAF) Tornado GR4 aircraft. Each weapon was twice updated in flight with new target coordinates, and the precision guided munitions accepted the retargeting coordinates and successfully flew to their new final targets”.

They do have it. Kind of. You can change the location using laser. After the, due to how it works in game, GNSS is turned off, but IOG with 0 drift is turned on, to simulate it.

In one episode of your Tornado video, you happened to shoot down a friendly even though you weren’t aiming at it. This has happened to me on a number of occasions, can you explain to me how does this occur, and how can we avoid it in tight turn multiple plane bogie-friendly engagements?

With which missile haha help me narrow it down?

It is in the “Loving the Stage -2G Tornado radar youtube video clip”, it happens at minute 2:05. I did not identify the missile but it was while you were doing tight turns to get a better firing position on the bogies.

The biggest reason for me brining this up, is that if it happens in cases where it is clear we are not intending to shoot down friendlies, then gajiin should not be subtracting silver lions away from the player making the initial shot at the bogie plane.

As a compensation the person that got shot down can then receive lets say 5k silver lions and 5k research points. This seems fair trade off to me. Now it should not be abused when players intentional set up matches and shoot each other down just to get easy research points.

You know you can apologise and neither person will pay any reparations

Ohh that was a sidewinder. A F-14 crossed the FOV of the missile and the F-14 is a really hot target so it switched.
