Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

so i found an old plane book in my house from the late 80’s based of the copyright but it gives no sources for the weapons they have said here but it claims mavricks

I think german tornados might have had Mavs not sure about british ones tho

Also the GBU-15

it might be mixing the GBU-15 with the PGMs? im not sure since im pretty sure no nation that operated the tornado had GBU-15s

yeah i have had a closer look and there are no sources provided

I think it was a planned capability that never came to fruition

So I am at the point on the Tornado F3 Late where I would have spaded any other top tier Aircraft, and I still have yet to unlock the AIM120’s In fact I am only 1/3rd of the way Through grinding this piece of crap.

There are a few direct issues that cause this.

  1. This aircraft is uncharacteristically awful for its BR, at least with the F3 Early, while it is still awful, it has a very good BR and very good weapons for its battle rating, and while most aircraft out perform it, they do not have a bigger stick.

The F3 Late has the same “stick” as everyone else, but has really stumpy arms and legs, it it naturally takes an absolute beating in almost every game. As it is, it should be a 13.0 aircraft, but even that wont really help it as it is just in the same situation as the SHAR/F4F KWS

  1. As it is an interceptor, it only has A2A ordnance and the performance upgrade modules. Every other top tier aircraft still has the same 300k grind, but 50% of it is for A2G ordnance, meaning the F3 late has to grind for twice as long to get its optimum A2A combat performance, which is still going to be crap compared to the competition. Most aircraft suck when stock, the Tornado F.3 late is no exception, but what the F.3 Late does what no other top tier can do, is that even after getting several upgrades for a very long grind time, you gain no practical improvement. So you suck just as hard after grinding 150k RP on modules as you do when completely stock. The fact that you have to grind 130k exp just to get 2 additional AIM-120B’s is absurd.

I really cannot comment much more beyond that its a steaming pile of garbage with no redeeming qualities as I have not spaded it yet, and likely never will in its current state… at least the wings don’t fall off when you roll it anymore i guess.

  1. Put it at 13.0
    OR
Give it ASRAAM, AIM-120C5 and TRD/MAWS and make it 13.7

The only thing that would reduce the pain of this aircraft would be 13.0

ASRAAM would just put it in the same place as it is now because of how gaijin balances ordinance, it would probably be only 0.3 Br lower than the typhoon when it eventually comes. Don’t forget it lacks HMD which basically everyone else has and so it would not be as potent.

The problem is it should be 13.0 Br but isn’t because reasons, the same reasons fg.1 and fgr 2 are still 12.0

tornado_f3 has its proper RHWR display now;

I’ve checked the others are planned to get it as well, just waiting on an update.

Just watched MatAWG’s video testing the Brimstones on the GR4 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZDOzIDrSKI ) .

Oh lads, I think we’re going to be waiting some time before it’s worth the effort :'(

Yep, it’s a hit and run weapon only, not a stand off weapon. Don’t try to use it like one. For that use PGMs or ePaveways.

so after Smin confirmed the GR1 doesnt have Mk103 engines because of the GR4, Ive created a dev thread for it

Please support the Tornado GR.4 getting its missing BOL countermeasures:

Now we just need them to fix BOL.

Worth giving it a shot anyway

Thought of a tactic to make use of the Brimstones in a FnF capacity.

Take them alongside PGMs. If you see a Pantsir, start by firing off 5 or 6 towards the Pantsir, followed by a PGM. Then turn cold. The Pantsir will expend missiles intercepting the Brimstones which are guiding via pure IOG allowing the PGM to kill the target. Doesn’t even matter if the brimstones are out of range either. They’ve done their job hopefully and the decoyed Pantsir long enough for the PGM to get a kill.

Dump flares and chaff at the same time just to really screw the Pantsir

So much effort to use a weapon in a capacity it should be fine in, when you can just take a harrier and be done with it. 😿

I cant see this working when he could just focus on the big smokey bomb rather than try and get each individual brimstone. That is unless it confuses the radar a tad?

Also, just an idea but have we checked to see if the drift is random or consistent? Does it drop a specific amount depending on its speed and height, because if so we can sort of guesstimate how much drop it would have to get at least a somewhat accurate launch on pantsirs. Would cause it to at least hide for a second to get an accurate brim on its way.

Random I think, and my hope is that it will just be hard to lock onto the right target

Shame really when a10c’s have apkws to do the exact same thing.
