You have to know its coming to pop smoke its optical guided (i dont think it triggers LWS)
I have died in a SAM with neither the SU-25 or the missiles registering on the Radar screen before exploding.
You don’t need to turn on the laser for Brimstone until a few seconds to impact exactly like Hellfire.
Blog suggests so but I’ll wait to see until that hits production.
It’s great to have the plane! In testing we will all see a top tier strike aircraft needs a stand off muntion.
The question is how fast Brimstone will be off the rail and to the target.
If its slower than an AGM-65 we will be over the battlefield and dead before the missile hits.
We need the dev to open to see how it works
Maybe I missed something but are Brimstones limited to 9 carried at once?
Theres plenty of images of 12 or even 18 being carried at once
In service it was only on the shoulder pylons. In test it carried them under the wings too.
The weapons checklist manual also only stats mountings on the shoulders
Has gaijin decided it won’t get the shoulder mounted ones?
This one here appears to have 12 mounted to the fuselage, I dont think this is a testbed aircraft
i wouldn’t mind that if the PGMs, which weren’t used in service and only tested, hadn’t been added to the GR.1
Yeah but that’s without a pod which we need to use the SAL mode.
Test weapoary is the devs disgression.
Can the nose mounted FLIR not be used to guide them?
So then, I suppose the remaining questions are:
Litening III, meant to be Gen 3 right?
BOL?
Hindenburg tanks?
I wonder what the ePaveways will be like, can they be dropped on multiple targets like JDAMs or are they going to be more like laser-IOG
No it’s not like the DMT on Harrier. It’s used as a navigation aid.
hoping the FLIR has half-decent resolition to help with spotting things in Sim when not running a tpod
It’s the same unit from GR7. The reason GR7 can aim it’s one is because of the DMT in game being lumped with with it.
FLIR was just for nav
LOAL with Brimstone 1 (before it had the SAL mode) was a case of using LRMTS and/or radar to generate coordinates for a “box” to launch the missiles in to, then the MMW seekers would find targets in that box.
One supposes you’d be able to launch dual-mode Brimstones at an area target without the need for Litening, just using the Tornado’s onboard systems.
Then yeah, its half usable for that then.
SAL mode mainly came about due to the lower risk of collateral damage during the war on terror. Being able to ripple fire 12 missiles towards a mass of soviet tanks was great in the cold war: you don’t really care which 12 tanks you kill so long as there are 12 less tanks coming at you.
For the war on terror you needed to 100% know exactly which vehicle was going to blow up. Hence SAL mode.
and knowing war thunder, it woud target 12 tank hulls (dead tanks) anyway :D
Will we be able to guide multiple Brimstones at once as we can do with Hellfires?
If thats the case you should just be able to fire them one after the other and always have a few in the air to hit targets
