Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

Gaijin putting the Tornado F3 and FGR-2 at the same BR in air battles is ludicrous.
It juts shows they do not look at the aircrafts actual capabilities or weapon systems.

I mean they’ve said themselves several times that weapons systems usually have a set BR range, like ATGMs won’t be below X BR, Fox 3 won’t be below Y BR and so on, while the vehicle’s overall performance in the game usually decides which BR it sits at.

You have a Tornado (better radar, better fox 1 missiles, more counter measures, all aspect fox 2 missiles, faster)
FGR-2 (better gun)
and they are at the same BR while on paper capabilities look similar in game the FGR-2 defnitely feels like a generation/BR below the Tornado

The Tornado does have more toys but I don’t imagine it’ll have much impact on your average player. I’d have to double check but I think the Phantoms turn better and have more efficient engines which will help getting into notches and the like, and 9Ls seem pretty flare hungry even from the rear. bear in mind that when the decompression was first announced, the efficiency or the F.3 was lower than the Phantoms, initially being 11.7 before being moved to 12.0

Phantoms does probably turn better (ish) but I’d reckon you’d still fly both as BVR trucks (I rarely run the gunpod in Sim) , at which point the F3s better SARH and better radar does nudge it ahead.

I personally just dont see what about the FGR2 would be OP at 11.7 though. (FGR2/FG1 maintained a lower SB BR of 11.3, and whilst balance in that gamemode is very different. They still feel a tad underpowered fighting many 11.7s like the Mig-23MLD and Mirage F1C)

The phantom turns way more than the F3 in 99% of situations, it only loses in a sustained fight with the wings out and flaps down because the FM is wrong

F4 can easily pull 12gs of instantaneous turn, even with the gun pod and a missile load. Tornado can pull 10 at the absolute max and needs less than 5 mins of fuel to do it(and be completely clean)

And they still refused to give it 9ls? at 12.0 where it mainly sees missiles such as 9ls? Makes no sense and would have allowed for some much needed diversity in the british tech tree between the fgr and fg where ne could have mavericks while the other got 9ls (i think thats how it would be split but i cant remember the specifics).

FGR2 had AGM-12s and Id give them the 9Ls as well.

Id leave the FG1 with the 9Gs.

I also wonder if the FGR2 could get Napalm as well, but thats a convo for a different thread

I find it pretty odd that only the Harrier Gr.1 gets napalm, but basically any other aircraft in the tree does. I mean, did Britain only test napalm on it but never used in any other aircraft? Just wondering.

I’ve asked that before so shall link flame’s reponse for it:

Unfortunately a paper only situation.

Also paper only

I hear ya, but alas I hear cries of “bbbbbbut that’s different! It’s Russian! It must be treated differently!”

Sigh i really dont know how many bally times we can say this the Yak-141 should not be taken as an example and is a one off.

That would be acknowledging special treatment then?

Pandoras box, gajin opened it.
It will always taken as an example, otherwise people will start screaming russian bias.
Eitherway its a grave gajin did dig themself and they gotta deal with now.
The result of its implementation was to be expected

When 2 nations were left to rot with only 11.3s to fight vastly superior 12.0s and then 12.3s for an entire year, with not 1 but 2 vehicles added to other nations (Yak-141 and F16AJ) that bent the rules to allow them to be added. It’s going to leave a sour taste in said nations mouths for a long long long time to come.

They have proven they just make the rules up as they go along.

Not me asking the same thing twice 🤦‍♂️
