OTO Melara OF-40 SPAA (ATAK-35)

Hey Nicho, I was wondering if had any information on this vehicle if it was stabilized and also had thermals, I assuming yes confirmation would be cool to see, but overall a good job. I look forward to seeing this vehicle in the game one day!

From what I know, it did have stab but its optics only had access to NVD.

I think the sidam is pretty good i get more kils in it than my centauro 105 but i’d love to see a new AA for italy, a unique one to the tech tree.

Adding this (and Gaijin lowering the OTOMATIC) would perfect for the Italian SPAAG tree, especially since the Shilka is the only Radar AA in the tree.

A question tho, what’s the difference between the APDS and the FAPDS?

FAPDS are better for “solo playing”…

The F in FAPDS stands for “frangible”. Essentially, it’s a subcalibre projectile, which allows it to get a high muzzle velocity, but it’s designed to shatter and fracture itself into smaller pieces upon impact. This makes these shells excellent for AA usage, as the fragments from the shell quite effectively rip aircraft and helis apart.

FAPDS differs from APDS in the intended use and design of the shells. Both are fast subcalibre projectiles, but the APDS has a dense core, designed to pierce armor, while the FAPDS is more brittle like I said earlier.
APDS= Anti-armour (hard targets)
FAPDS=Anti-“soft” targets

I’m no expert so please correct me if anything is wrong. Hope that cleared it up for you :)

Who said that? There is nothing to prove this claim of yours.

This vehicle is fine at BR 8.3 and no above.

It was sarcasm.

question is: why isn’t it already in the game? did gaijin really think the sidam is an okay vehicle?!

Is this just an Italian Gepard?

On paper it is a better system than Gepard.

Sheesh, Germany wasn’t the only one who used this general design. Japan did basically the same and to this day uses their Type 87 SPAAG, which I really enjoyed. Germans to this day use their Gepards as well, it is a very potent design. Having both search and track radar means it can even work in top tier, although the effective range is quite limited, compared to SAMs.

+1 on this, would make the italian AA grind much more fun.

A much needed addition
