History

The OT-810 series of vehicles was a Czechoslovak post-war production of modified Sd.Kfz. 251 half-tracks. In Czechoslovakia, these vehicles were designated Hkl 6p and Hkl 7, mostly referred to as Hakl. The first OT-810 prototypes were produced in 1954 and had different armor layout and engine from the production variants. One of these prototypes was equipped with the vz.38/46, which is a Czechoslovak production variant of 12,7mm DShK machine gun.

The OT-810 was specifically designed to transport infantry, with one of its main modifications being armored roof hatches over the troop compartment at the rear of the vehicle. The OT-810 (T21) is a rare modificatiton that is showcased inside book called Obrněný transportér OT-810 by Jiří Frýba. Tarasnice 21 (T21) is mounted to the same mount used on normal OT-810 for UK vz.59 machine gun. The information on this modification is very limited, with seemingly only single image existing. This modification was fitted to the early series of production of OT-810, judging by the flat sides, compared to the angled ones seen on later production vehicles.

The crew was made up of four crew members, this being driver, gunner, loader and commander.

+1 what a fascinating creature

+1 although I do wonder where the assertion that it is a mounted weapon comes from, especially since the image isn’t that great. If it’s just held by hand, it’s unfortunately not a valid suggestion. I’d like to see it added regardless, however.

It is mounted to modified UK vz.59 machine gun mount, the recoiless rifle weighs 20 kg so it’d be pretty hard to be held by hand.

Also there have been multiple suggestions on vehicles which use hand-held weapons.

The book I mentioned in the source on OT-810 also calls this a modification.

These vehicles are also movie stars so you likely saw one and never noticed. This means there are a lot of skins for the OT-810.
