OT-62A 82mm BzK vz.59A

History

The OT-62 series of vehicles is Czechoslovak take on amphibious armored personal carrier that could serve multi-purpose roles, such as mine layers, radio stations and tank destroyers. The first prototype of this vehicle mounted a small turret prototype, which mounted modified early stage of Tarasnice 21 (T21), the same vehicle would later also be modified to mount 82mm BzK vz.59A for trials, where the roof of the fighting comparment was removed to fit more munition inside. During the development the small turret was also removed off of the vehicle for wider gun traverse of the recoiless rifle. It’d be later installed back.

The OT-62A is production variant of the first prototype, mounting the small turret with UK vz.59 machine gun and Tarasnice 21 (T21) recoiless rifle. 36 of these vehicles were modified to mount 82mm BzK vz.59A recoiless rifle.

This is an early modification for anti-tank purposes, since the Tarasnice 21 (T21) and UK vz.59 are still mounted in the small turret on the right side of the vehicle. This arnament was later removed, still keeping the turret. This variant with missing arnament in the small turret would be later known as OT-62D

The tank would have a lot of crew members, with 2 gunners, 4 loaders, driver and commander, around 2-3 loaders would work with the 82mm BzK vz.59A, with 1-2 loaders reloading the Tarasnice 21 (T21).
