OSU-76

image

Hello everyone :), what I would like to introduce today is OSU-76.

Introduction

In 1943, Soviet artillery had a very high consumption of artillery during attacks, and towed artillery could not keep up with armored units. Artillery also needed to drive vehicles to tow artillery for attacks, which was time-consuming, labor-intensive, and vulnerable to enemy attacks. To solve this problem, the Soviet Union needed a new self-propelled artillery that was lightweight and convenient for firing, which gave rise to the design of the OSU-76.

At this time, the Soviet Union already had the SU-76, but the problem was that this vehicle belonged to armored units rather than artillery units. This was also one of the reasons for developing the OSU-76, which was to avoid conflicts between different branches of the military. Unlike the SU-76, the OSU-76 directly uses the chassis of the T-60 tank without much modification, resulting in a smaller and more compact overall size.

This self-propelled artillery uses an open-air semi open combat chamber, which can be unfolded with canvas to cover the roof when needed. As it is a self-propelled artillery, it did not install too much armor for protection. Most of the vehicle is made up of 6mm thick homogeneous armor plates, but this also makes its overall weight small and able to maintain good maneuverability most of the time.

In June 1944, the OSU-76 was tested together with the SU-76. The OSU-76 structure was too compact and slightly inferior in terms of human-machine efficiency compared to the SU-76. Its shorter track contact length and fewer load-bearing wheels resulted in unstable shooting. However, it used a ready-made chassis, which was convenient to manufacture and met the mobility requirements of artillery units. However, due to the emergence of the competitor ASU-76, the development of the OSU-76 was eventually terminated, and a total of three prototype vehicles were manufactured and tested for the entire project.

In game

The OSU-76 is a miniaturized tank destroyer with a T-60 tank as its chassis. It has excellent passability and maneuverability, and its main gun power is sufficient to destroy enemies encountered. This fighter car has a mini size and can launch attacks in unexpected places for enemies. Suggest placing it in 2.7.
