It’s an F-18A with some Canadian modifications made such as landing lights.
Functionally think of it as an F-18A which has been periodically upgraded up to the level of the F-18C but with AIM-120D
I had another dumb idea for a premium/squadron f/a-18: Maverick’s F/A-18 (I mean, he would theoretically be the highest scoring f/a-18 pilot, right?)

I love that everyone agrees on this question, I’m also looking for that info, apparently from what I understand, the F/A-18C Hornet could be on the fourth line (below the AV-8B Plus) and the F/A-18E or F Super Hornet could be on the third line (Below the F-14B), although at this point I recommend buying a Premium Account and researching both lines as a vice (only if you already have rank 7 planes. If you are rank 6 or below, just be patient, sooner or later you will reach the Hornet C, and then being even in the tech tree, you will enjoy the Super Hornet when it arrives probably in December 2025)

I believe the Legacy Hornets will go below the AV-8B Plus and the Super Hornets below the F-14B, but I’m not worried, I’ll try to get both lines as soon as possible

At first I was rather for an all under F-14 strategy, but I’ve thought about it and you’re probably right…
The Hornets weren’t introduced as successors to the F-14s, but as lighter and more multirole complements, kinda like what the F-16 was to the F-15, so it would make sense to put the F/A-18A and C next to the F-14B rather than under it.
As well, the Hornets served and still serve in the USMC while the Navy replaced them with the Superhornets, so it would make sense to put the Hornets under the USMC AV-8B+
The F/A-18E was much bigger, only served the USN and replaced the F-14 as a heavyweight navy fighter.
Finally, splitting the F/A-18 variants between two branches makes the tech tree more balanced and evenly distributed, while putting them all under the F-14B would create a huge line there and holes in every other line…
So, it seems to me it’s by far the best solution
On the other hand, putting twin seaters under the AV-8B+ and single seaters under the F-14B doesn’t seem to me like a good solution anymore, it would make sense irl but in-game twin seaters are just worse versions of single seaters. People would just straight up prefer one line and not grind the other at all.

Well, the F/A-18D was only used for attack and was never used in a fighter role, so I think they should just make guided bombs/rockets exclusive to the 2 seater variants like IRL.

C’s can (and do) use exactly the same armament like the D’s. As to D’s only being used for attack, that’s also not true, especially also for other air forces that have the D specifically for training (but can fight with them too, of course).

I’d didnt say the Cs weren’t capable of using the munitions. I’m just saying that historically, the F/A-18D was only used as an attacker. If you don’t believe me, find a pure fighter squadron of F-18Ds in America. Not “fighter attack” or “strike”.
Yes, and I was merely pointing out that (even if that’s true for the US), that’s not the case for the other Hornet operators.

Pretty sure Malaysia only has F/A-18Ds (insert “oops, all F/A-18Ds” meme here), which they use for pretty much everything and anything, including air interception and other air-focused missions.

It would be kinda cool if we could see testbeds like that, but I’m pretty sure it had the weaponry stripped out of it.
