OPFOR vehicles in War Thunder - good idea or bad idea?

Hi all!

I was thinking about vehicles that could be added to War Thunder and came up with the idea of OPFOR vehicles. Right now, we already have one of them in game - the M1 KVT - but since every military needs training, practically everyone has OPFOR vehicles… which brings up a bunch of interesting and silly looking options. In game, they can act as sidegrades to existing vehicles in the game, which can help to round off lineups in BRs where some nations might be lacking.

So I wanted to start a discussion - should we have more OPFOR vehicles added to the game in future, or would it be more important to see ‘actual vehicles’ first? If those vismod tanks are added, should they be in the tech trees or be premiums/squadron/event vehicles?

Should OPFOR vehicles be added to the game?
  • Sure! OPFOR vehicles would be a great addition to the game.
  • I don’t mind, but they shouldn’t be the priority right now.
  • No. OPFOR vehicles are a bad idea.

How should OPFOR vehicles be implemented into the game?
  • OPFOR vehicles should be in the tech tree
  • OPFOR vehicles should be event/battle pass vehicles
  • OPFOR vehicles should be squadron/premium vehicles
  • I voted no in the first poll.

Here’s some examples of ‘OPFOR vehicles’, in case you don’t quite know what I mean;

An M551 Sheridan dressed up as a T-80 for training exercises, depicting [i think] the ficitious nation of “Krasnovia”. Under the vismod, it’s a normal M551, but I’m not sure if it’s still able to fire with it on. Considering the KVT is meant to be an M1A1 instead of an M1, I feel it wouldn’t be a stretch for Gaijin to make one that fires anyway [were it to be added], even if it can’t in real life.

An AMX-30B2 ‘FORAD’, also used as an OPFOR vehicle. Compared to the normal one, it has a shroud surrounding one of the optics to mimic an IR spotlight, the 20mm autocannon has been removed, and a pyrotechnics launcher has been added on the barrel to simulate the gun firing. Obviously, the cannon still works. They were painted in a two-tone grey scheme to avoid confusion with regular AMX-30s, which persists to this day (despite them no longer being in service).

A Leopard 2A4 dressed up as a T-80[?], again for training purposes, depicting the ficitious nation of “Seeland”. Under the vismod, it’s just a regular 2A4 like the Sheridan above. This one also has [what looks like] a pyrotechnics launcher on it, like the FORAD, but it is also still able to fire its main gun.
