Firstly, I LOVE how the old gun sounds are returning in a remastered form. I’ve missed the old sounds so much and it’s so great to hear cannons actually sound unique again. However, I’ve noticed that there’s still barely any change to the sounds while in scope view. You can’t hear the the iconic signature sounds of the gun while in gunner view, you just hear a very bland and generic metal sled, even for tanks with very distinct gun sounds. Here’s two examples with the IS-2’s 122mm and the Pz.IV F2, there’s very distinct features to their firing sounds in third person that I’m so happy to see return, but you can’t hear them in gunner view and it’s still very boring. Most of the time when you’re firing, you’ll be using the scope. Please let us hear the remastered sounds while in gunner view too!
On the one hand, these sounds are objectively not as realistic.
On the other hand, I am an extremely nostalgic person; I miss the 2010s era of my life, and hearing these sounds again… brought me back. I find it kinda sweet to have something from that era coming back.
Furthermore, the remastered sounds are NOT entirely the same as the old ones. If they were, I would advocate for the ones we currently have instead.
However, what the sound engineers achieved was a tasteful blend of the classic sounds AND the new ones, combining nostalgia AND realism.
Well, even from a realism standpoint, I don’t think the current sounds are realistic either. Most cannons sound extremely similar regardless of caliber, power, build, etc. in game. Honestly from that perspective the remastered old sounds seem more realistic in that they give different cannons distinct and unique sounds.
I mean, realistically, that’s how it is; when we hear a tank gun, regardless of the caliber, it’s just a loud crack that penetrates deep into our eardrums. Big guns don’t have distinct and unform sounds easily distinguishable- it’s just a loud and deafening CRACK-BOOM of varying volume depending on the caliber.
That being said, I was coming back to this topic to say that I still love and am on board with the new sounds, hahahah.
They retain the old essence with increased quality and additional realistic layers. As I said, they are less realistic, but in this very specific instance, I’m fine with that.
