Haynes Manual for the Centurion acquired, confirms most olifants are based off the Mk.5 and 5/1 and states that the frontal composite (assumed turret and hull) is capable of absorbing 125mm APFSDS as featured on the T-64 at “*standard engagement distances”, this indacates approximately 405 to 410mm of Kinetic protection on the turret face at least (assuming 1km SED)

*(from research this seems to be approximately 800m to 1000m, though I have had great trouble coming up with any solid sources for this being the standard engagement range of the Olifant let alone the centurion, most sources I have either state “Long range” or “Standard engagement range/distance” without citing any specific numbers)

Pages Sourced: Haynes manual 58 and 59

Final two books arrived, “South African Armour of the boarder war 1975-89” was not particularly helpful as it does not pertain any information relevant to the Olifant Mk.1B or Mk.2 upgrades, only the Mk.1A, though it does raise the option of a module for add-on track armour on the Olifant Mk.1A as it seems to have been very popular.

The book “Centurion Universal Tank 1943-2003” does contain some relevant information to the Mk.1B and Mk.2 so It shall be used when I (re)launch a fresh properly cited bug report. If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know!

There’s images of the inside of the Mk.2, doesn’t appear to be any sort of blast door on the hull ammo rack.

Thanks for the additional source, those are quite a few really good photos!

The pictures however do show a blow out panel, by the looks of it on the hull roof, so I think its safe to assume that there likely is. Especially considering its standard practice in MBTs these days and has been since the 90s. (where applicable) This also lends some reliability to the ammunition stowage in the turret bustle being armoured.

Also I note on the sign it states that the Ammunition load carried is 68 not 64.
Again very good pictures, thank you.

Blow out panels on the hull are not standard at all, only the Abrams has a small hull rack with a blowout. Also as there are no blast doors I’m very certain there are no blowouts.

These are fair comments, I’m still doing research, but it is most certainly hard to find out more considering it is still in service, and im not in the habbit of getting my hands on classified documents.

I’m a bit confused. Is the turret seat ring of Olifant Mk2 really only 29mm? This is too scary because it will be directly pierced by 30mm and 35mm shells in the game and destroyed, and why do I feel that its turret seat ring is relatively large in the game

To be honest, the Olifant Mk.2 is inferior to the Olifant Mk.1B Optimum (Olifant 2) in everyway with the exception of mobility which is the same.

Yes and no, it is 29mm thick, however, the turret should be seated much lower on it, as seen on the model of the Olifant Mk1A ingame, and as can be seen in the attached Photo

Not really; though the Armour layout for the 1B Optimum was better, and the proposed 120mm cannon was superior, its Optics, FCS, Integrated electronics, and Fire suppression systems were all worse along with the mobility as the Powerpack was not upgraded, despite the 1B being noticeably heavier.

When I have access to all my resources again at easter I’ll launch a new bug report, that hopefully won’t be ignored again.

Also, I think you’re right it looks like a maintenance hatch or some other point of access.

Optics definitely but the improvement of the FCS and largely the electronics was so little that it comes close to not even being an upgrade, and the Mk.2 is still Centurion on the inside, so not as comfortable as a newer design

In the development server, the turret height of OlifantMK. 2 has been reduced
The picture shows a comparison between the current server and the development server

Could you at least remove the bushes so we can see what you’re talking about

Yeah I saw this and pointed it out, the turret was floating, it is no longer as of the last major update
