For the first time in a while, I went back to old-wiki to check something, and was greeted with a login box. And trying to log in with my regular Gaijin credentials doesn’t work.
Did they turn off access on purpose, or screw something up?

The old wiki (Wiki 2.0) was suspended a few months after the new wiki (Wiki 3.0) release. Now only website administrator with specific credentials can access said website as the log-in box suggest, you don’t use your War Thunder credentials for that.
As above, its locked so only those with access can use it. If there is something on it you would like to have transferred to the new wiki or have a copy of you can try contacting the Wiki Moderators, i’m not sure if it’s possible for them to give you a copy of a page or re-create it on the new wiki but it’s worth a try to contact them and ask at least.
You can find all the teams and the areas they handle listed here: (Who is who and Reporting Procedure). If you don’t get an answer within a few days you can add more moderators from the list to the original message instead of sending a new message (that way you preserve the date of the message and it doesn’t look like a new request), adding one of the moderators to the message every 2-3 days or so until you get an answer.
Please do not to add the seniors until you have tried all other regular moderators, the Seniors likely won’t answer unless they are added and pinged by the regular moderators but if you’ve added all the regular moderators with no answer then you can add the seniors.
This is sad. The old wiki contained a lot more information than the new wiki does. “Usage in battles” had incredible gems. Now the prospect of just copying over large quantities of content to the new wiki is no longer realistic, a real shame.
Okay, so basically gone.
I wish they could have just left the thing available. There was a lot of useful information there, and now much of it will never get ported over to the new wiki-which-is-not-a-wiki.
That is a really bad news. There are still a lot of things missing in the new wiki, it’s not the time to close the old one for now.
so many amazing “usage in battle” segments gone… I still used the old wiki more than the new one.

agreed, on the old one there was info about specific weapon family’s so you could actually look up data on stuff like the AIM-9s and AIM-7s and it would give you a list of missiles of the same family just under a different name due to other nations use
You can still access the old wiki through the wayback machine. Some images may not load, and the website as a whole is slower, but everything is there. This is the time stamp i use whenever i need some accurate info:

Very unfortunate they are forcing us to use this dogshit new wiki missing 100% of the features present on the old one, and only has useless walls of text yapping about nothing.
Do anyone actually use the new wiki?
I mean as I see it, it’s absolutely useless.
Rarely i do, mainly to quickly find out about removed/unavailable vehicles that don’t show up in the tech tree. I could do that in the old wiki too, but it takes longer to load and sometimes the newer vehicles just dont show up.
