I’m not the first person to suggest a change to the 2S38. As it stands its brutally overpowered. It’s so overpowered: a well placed first shot can disable or one shot any tank, it has made non-russian slow attackers like the A-10 completely obsolete (yes bmp I’m looking at you too), and its a premium so it’s painfully overplayed and cancerous to fight against.
Conversely, the HSTVL which is a worse 2S38 in almost every way, sits 1.3 BR higher. The HSTVL was a little too strong on release but was nerfed into unplayability weeks later.
As it stands 10.0 is genuinely too cancerous to play for a few reasons, but the 2S38 being a better and premium HSTVL at a much lower BR is the cherry on top.
It really depends: what tank?where did it got it?at what distance?at what angle?with what shell?
If you’re referring to the Abrams situation specifically,that problem resides on the turret ring not being modelled as volumetric, that’s it.
In any other cases,you can tank a few hits with it if you’re head-on and you can erase the threat,unless you absolutely don’t have reflexes
Speed is not a factor to be honest,since it has IRST and HE-VT shells, meaning that every flying object that stares ≈4.5 kms from the 2S38 are completely dead,unless they’re flying in space (A-6E shenanigans). And honestly? it’s a good thing, since CAS can’t be properly managed at that BR, regardless of the country
My counterpoint is: leave the 2S38 at 10.0 or raise it at 10.3 and give the HSTV-L all of its missing features (XM885’s actual pen values,HE-VT,IRST and Delta rounds)
Its so overpowered, oh no. 0.1 K/D against air for 2S38 ,and 1.13 only for ground.
Meanwhile HSTVL
HSTVL gun oneshots everything from side and have no issues penning from front either. Meanwhile 2S38 empties entire ready rack, ok not anymore,as it doesnt have 20 round rack now, and only cripples or not even that the tank. Any shot into 2S38 is insta death,meanwhile HSTVL just eates APFSDS like candies.
I did,and i also did played against it, 2S38 doesnt stop 3OF26 with no damage or eats DM53 through the back with no damage and tanks another 3 of them. 2S38 is just mid vehicle in mid tree. Its only good as SPAA against hovering helis or planes flying straight
Its take basic logic to realize the just because a playerbase (like premium players) plays a tank poorly, that doesn’t make a tank suddenly justified in being buffed. A good example is America 8.3, where the stats look great because only skilled players play those tanks, despite 8.3 America having a mediocre lineup.
This is a problem Gaijin has been having. In fact, Gaijin looked at HSTVL stats and said “Hmm the stats are ok must be fine” even though only skilled players attempt to play the tank because it’s so bad.
I never claimed I did exceptional in it either. You think this is some pissing contest when in reality im just telling you that you have no experience in the tank worth mentioning. That said, you ignore all the nuance of stats so it fits your argument. When did I play the HSTV-L? What lineup did I use? What was the meta at the time? What was the flavor of the month at the time? How GOOD was I at the time versus now? You ignore these factors.
Besides, 7 games is not valid. You would have to play a lot more than that to be able to stat compare anyway…
The K/D sucks because the players using them suck. That doesn’t make the vehicle itself any less broken OP. It is effectively a vastly superior Otomatic that is 1.3 BR lower, where the Otomatic is effectively worthless due to the existence of things like the Pantsir and constant uptiering to that BR.
I should also remark that the 2S38 is at the same BR as the CV9040s, the 9040s: which have a 24 round first stage ammo rack that goes insanely quickly, which takes longer to reload 1 40mm shell than it does an Abrams to load a 120mm shell (for some incredibly intelligent Gaijin reason), while also being less survivable than the 2s38, with less pen, worse AA capability, and only the Lvkv9040C can track air targets to begin with, using a much less reliable lock than the 2S38. The 9040s accelerate much slower, and have worse gun handling.
So yes, I’d like to see the 2S38 moved to 11.3 and the Otomatic moved to 11.0. I also think the 10.0 premium Russian stack is absolutely obnoxious and I’m tired of seeing it, whilst my team of click-baits dies once and leaves.
