Official swedish military notes that the STRV 122 versions can reach 72kmh!

An Swedish tank commander staded in an interview that the Strv 122’s can reach 72kmh,
This should be changed immediately due to the game being historical

And a tank commander said the T-72B3M can actually reverse at 14 km/h, lies apart. This max speed of 72 km/h mentioned by said tank commander has no sources, at least not official sources from the Försvarsmakten, most of which specifically mentions 68 km/h. Maybe 72 km/h sounded cooler to put the audio effect. I recommend reading this short table on Facts of the Stridsvagn 122 by the Försvarets materielverk which specifically states 68 km/h.

Well if a tank commander said that it would go 68kmh it would be pretty cool too, i dont get why somebody would lie over 4kmh extra.

He has driven the tank and has great knowledge, the wiki shows the “safe” top speed while this guy is saying the fastest it can go when max throttle.

Plus he looks very wise

I don’t think Gaijin accepts pilot/tanker testimonies as sources (it’s also not a tank commander, it’s a technical instructor). The newspapers page it’s posted on is also know for making mostly “sensationalized” articles/posts with very little fact checking and embellishing titles/content to sell more.

There is no mention in what conditions those 72km/h were achieved (maybe it was down hill with a tailwind and a driver being late).

If you find better sources for it then you can bug report it here: Gaijin.net // Issues (just search a bit first so that you don’t report something that is already reported and known about)

A guide on how to report bugs can be found here: ([Navigation] Technical Knowledge Base | War Thunder Wiki)

Speaking of engine power, has anybody here notice any speed differences between the leopard 2 PSO and other leopard 2? I even removed the dozer blade and can’t tell if the PSO is noticeably quicker.

Just as some cars can reach over 200km/h, when they drive off a cliff. Needs a more reputable source.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt the current top tier MBT’s speed capped at a certain speed because that’s the fastest they can go without their track exploding?

I don’t know about other tanks but Abrams can go 60-70 mph in real life but it can only go ~42 mph in war thunder. In real life, Abrams’s engine has a factory-installed speed limiter. War Thunder models the tank with this limiter active to reflect standard military operations. If the limiter is bypassed (possible to do by mechanics/crew), the 1,500-hp turbine can push the tank to 60–70 mph on flat roads. However, going 60+ mph destroys the tank. The extreme friction melts the rubber track pads, wrecks the drivetrain, and endangers the crew.

I know that aleast for the Leo 2 if the Limiter is removed thats in there for wear and tear it can go much higher like 100-110kmh

Holy wehrafantasy

I remember a youtube video where Bundeswehr showed a Leopard 2A4 going over 70km/h along a shallow creek. They even filmed the speedometer showing it. If I remember correctly A4 was 72km/ fast as it was introduced in WT. WT database even states this value.

Later Leopard versions sometimes got governed to 68km/h to reduce wear on transmission, tracks and engine. Thats what troop manuals state, even if its not its real top speed. Gajin ofc gladly changed this, as someone digged out a book from Jentsch (I think) where the author stated 68kmh. There are also rumors Leopard tanks can go much faster, when the governor gets entirely disabled.

LEOPARD 2 A4 | KNDS Group
Official producer product page says 70 btw. Dunno why Gajin changed all Leopard 2 versions to 68kmh. At least A4 should be at 72. Just the heavier versions (A5 etc) got the 68km/h governor.
