Object 299 - AGS in USSR

Soviet / Russian tank that isn’t 2 tonnes? Impossible!

So lets say it gets added, which line? T80 line, T72 line, BMP line, or the tank destroyer line?

I think TD line, as it fits on the purpose of some kind of support since it isn’t designated as main battle tank even having planned a “tank” variant.

Battle pass wouldn’t be fair because it would just be a “Pay to win” tank then because you have to spend GE for the battle pass best stuff.

Great, I super love this tank! Hope to see it soon in the game

The 477 image previously used was incorrect. This is a hypothetical image of 477A. In addition, the defense of 299 against 3BM42 is shown in the figure. 1516mm/1100mm KE

The envisioned tank has 2 layers of ERA. They are located in front of the front of the car and in front of the crew compartment. According to this estimation, the protection will exceed the previous estimate. (The middle of the front of the car is still about 1100mmKE,without the protection of ERA.

+1 looks like a railgun

I voted no because this is a paper tank. Only a test chassis with no composite armour was ever completed. If you want a tank of similar performance the Object 195 actually exists.

(edit, the image does not seem to work.)

This is as far as the Object 299 ever went.

Granted, if they start adding fantasy tanks like the OI to the game then there would be no reason to avoid the 299.

I wonder what these designs would have developed into if the cold war never ended.

This is not a paper tank

I see they have a strange definition of paper tanks then. In that case I suppose since an experimental chassis with no armour or weapons did exist to test the running gear and automotive parts of the design then this is not a paper tank by the standards layed out.

I don’t like it though. Such things are a slippery slope. Look at World of Tanks today, matches are mostly comprised of power crept fictional vehicles with very dubious ties to history if any.

Similar situations have occurred multiple times in the Navy. The Kronstadt, Izmailovo, Soviet Union, Tosa, and Serbakov are all examples of this. None of them were actually completed, only partially manufactured, yet they were still added to the game in their complete and planned forms.

Well, keep in mind that Gaijin themselves in the past have said naval vehicles are somewhat allowed to be paper designs since there is more planning and such involved with them, but the same rules don’t apply to ground vehicles such as this one therefor they don’t really make a good example

Rather it would come down to if they consider this thing a partial prototype or it’s own thing
Were they mainly trying to make this fighting variant or “Universal chassis”
If it’s the former, it has a higher likelihood of being added
But the latter? one could start arguing that it would be the same as the Flakpanzer 341 which was also removed for being paper since the turret itself wasn’t made

The situation with Object 299 is that the Soviets intended to use it as a next-generation universal chassis. However, during the development phase, they focused on the anti-tank variant, as the 2A83 gun had already completed testing at the time, and its ammunition had long been developed. The chassis was also manufactured, but the two were never integrated.

As for similar cases in ground forces, there is currently a comparable example in the game—the Ostwind II anti-aircraft tank. I have not seen physical photos of this vehicle, and there seems to be no documented evidence to confirm its existence. Nevertheless, it remains in the game and is even included in a vehicle pack.

The Object 299 prototype that was made was an automotive testbed vehicle, it had no composite armour or even provision to mound any sort of weapons considering it lacked a turret ring and had an enclosed, truck like cab.

While it seems the existence of this testbed is enough to add it to the game, I do not think the armour layout was ever finalised, the drawings we do have seem to be quite early and are concept drawing, not technical drawings. Unless more documentation turns up I fear a lot of this tank’s appearance and armour details would have to be guesswork. The likely result of this would be a fictional “what if” vehicle that would likely be quite different to what it would have been had funding not been cut.

There is also the Object 195 that actually seems to have made it as far as a functional prototype and used the same gun. Aswell as the T14 Armata, though that one seems to be undergoing a few changes now and then, the most noticeable being the frontal armour layout getting thicker in the more recent variant, but due to the relative secrecy at the moment there could have been further changes.

If this ever gets added, it needs to get treated similarly to the AGS in america: same 12.0 br and nerfed shell.
