I have been trying to find more information about the ZBM-39 “Anker” APFSDS shell fired from the 2A66. I know it has considerably better performance than the curet 3BM60 shell used on the 2A46 125mm gun. But I cant find any numbers specifically.
As far as Object 188 goes, I believe it was the original upgrade from T-72 to T-90, but was rejected because the new 2A66 125mm couldn’t fire old ammunition from the 2A46 125mm. This would have resulted in a very expensive upgrade, at a time when Russia had very little money. As a result the old 2A46 125mm was kept and the T-90A was born.
