was literally doing the exact same in game lmao
That’s fine and all…but player reactions do indeed matter insofar as steering things go.
Like it or not, whether you agree with it or do not, players’ reactions matter…and if they sour on this concept, it’ll likely die altogether. It’d best shape up quickly or it’ll be shipped out.
Personally, I don’t think Gaijin is going to remedy this in time…I suspect this event has so soured people that the basic concept will die with it. (Not endorsing that–just saying)
I think you are unfortunately right. Fitting for this community, gaijin gave us a chance but we were too toxic about it to care.
It’s not fun, that’s the whole issue with it. It’s a game mode that has limitless possibilites, yet implemented in such a way that it only permits two courses of action. As things stand, it’s narrower in scope of gameplay and more boring than bog standard ARB.
That devs keep trying to force us to run ground attack while the game mode heavily discourages attempting ground attack in any way is insane. That the process of attempting to make it work regardless entertains you personally is no excuse (your own comment on going about balance the wrong way is ironic in that sense).
Eh, they’re useful bait because OSAs seem to prioritise shooting down munitions than you. I’ve been having lots of luck running all 3 S-300s in one sortie using HARMs and Walleyes with the A7E.
People really need to be hitting the long range SAMs more. Right now everyone’s bashing their heads against OSAs, FlaRakRads and each other, but once the BUK/Hawk and S-300/Patriots are out, the sky opens up. OSAs will still get you out to about 7km alt because they’re insane and see through clouds with the radar off, but when the long range SAMs are gone it gets quite fun. I’ve been able to solo every SAM in about 45 minutes with the A-7E for the S-300s and coastal BUK then F-4E to bomb toss on the rest of the BUKs. It’s even easier and quicker in the MiG-23MLD with how fast it is.
Played the event today, air kills felt a lot less rewarding
Ya, Mig-23 is so fast it rips itself if you don’t slow down LOL
In terms of gameplay it’s effectively the exact same process as bombing enemy airfields, just lower priority, because suppressing long range SPAA impacts the match less than denying the enemy team forward spawns.
Well, I imagine opening up high altitude matters more in upper bracket where people can effectively shoot down from that far up, in which case the match impact would be much more significant. I’ve been only playing lower bracket where surviving (and having any ammo to fight with) long enough for backline SPAA missile to reach you is very rare.
I’m gonna just start copy pasting it because I’ve explained it like 6 times now
The sams are forcing everyone into pvp because they are too hard
gaijin buffed them a little while ago, I believe this was in an attempt to get people to diversify and play pve, and also to get usa teams to stop spawncamping russian teams.
A couple days later (today) they buffed the rewards for pve, and by extension nerfed rewards for pvp.
They nerfed pvp because they cant bring pve rewards up any more because of the nukes.
They also increased the spawn cost of nukes to allow buffing pve even more, but nukes can’t have more rewards then they cost in a single run because then you could just infinitely suicide nuke run bases, you need to actually survive with nukes.
Buffing the rewards addressed the root cause of why everyone was only pvping for score, as well as the core issue with air in war thunder in general, that being lack of rewards forcing everyone into pvp because there is no reason to play attackers. That reduces diversity not only in player vehicles but also in gameplay. Air rb has been the exact same for 13 years because there is no way to play it other than pvp team death match. This event fixes that.
The issue is that gaijin has has now fixed the core issue but the band aid of op sams still remains, it is no longer needed and should be reverted.
the entire point of structuring the event like this is so that players can choose to play what they enjoy. I am an 11 year vet, I do not give a single shit about pvp anymore, I can play air rb any time I want and I chose not to. This is fresh and fun for me, but aside that point, gives players a choice of pvp or pve, which opens up so much teamplay, dynamic gameplay, emergent gameplay, and does it in a way much more free to the players than air rb could ever accomplish.
all they need to do is revert the sams, considering what the feedback currently is. that is without any doubt their next move, and now players can chose how to interact with the event.
I want people to stop dismissing this event and telling gaijin its dogshit, when we are one change from something 100x more fun and open to any playstyle than air rb.
its rough, its only existed for a week, and there are problems. but the feedback is currently that this is the worst thing gaijin has ever tried, and I think that misses the entire point.
They don’t. I’ve already explained this many times. AA have an engagement range and will focus the first thing they detect and manage to track within their engagement range, then will switch to the next closest thing within their engagement range when the first target is gone. If your munition enters their engagement range before you do, they will focus the munition.
Interesting, I was having a hard time getting my HARMs to connect with the S-300’s Big Bird radar, I’m curious how you do it, I just nuke the S-300’s
Partially disagree. Once all the mid/long range AA is gone and you can fly at alt freely, it becomes an absolute cakewalk to strike any airfield the enemy has, and the enemy basicly cant stop you as there are a lot more attack vectors.
The issues are that:
- Few people are doing SEAD work, so it takes too long to take out all the high value AA systems
- Even if you take out all the high value AA systems, most of your team wont capitalize on it, either because they dont read the chat or because they dont care, and will continue to fly low.
It would matter more if your team utilized the advantage it provides more. Either way though, killing AA sites is more fun than killing airfields.
Proud of these numbers honestly, I expected much more! Imagine wasting your entire life on one game (esp as shit as WT), instead of enjoying many others or pursuing your creative passions in your free time
Also, 1k hours if PLENTY and if anything a little too much, I am consistently in top 5 players, I never struggle unless some dev bullshi
I also know all the game mechanics, have researched all the vehicles I wanted and I purely play for fun or join occasional event if it’s not too grindy (because I respect my free time)
Btw I have better stats than you in everything, but sim (cause I don’t play it, shit mode), so pipe down xD
I am yet to observe that in any of the matches I’ve witnessed. Even the best, most enjoyable matches that we won through active chat coordination (including an 8k+ score in F-4E banger) involved teamwork only within dimensions of a2a and airfield nuking, with the entirety of ground units being a collective ball of nope that wasn’t worth interacting with in any capacity whatsoever.
This is very reductive when this one change is “redesign the whole mission layout and AI behaviour”.
Well, this part is true, the mode does have potential and deserve work. However as implemented it feels incredibly ass to play, just full on misery. And that’s not something a game mode can exist with.
you don’t get to use your own skill in an argument and then say its better to have lower play time, and then double down on your own skill, while showing everyone you are an extremely average player lmao. that is what most peoples stats look like.
take a look at my stats, and take you your own advice my guy
I tried them many times…they were frequently shot down by the Rolands, though not 100% of the time.
The Kh-25s were commonly killed by the vehicles they were targeting.
You need to wait for the AA to shoot at you so it’s tracking your Aircraft and NOT your munition!
There are good players and there are tryhards, your opinion became even less valuable after showing your stats 🥀 (also obv a smurf account, since a curve of beginner to pro in 2k hours would not put you at 90%+, maybe 80% )
You DO NOT represent most of the players, since most players have a life or would rather play something fun instead of War Thunder CBT
you haven’t noticed that matches are no longer 90% pvp and 10% pve?

just joined this one and most people are pve now that its viable for score. usa teams 2 days ago literally wouldn’t even drop nukes because it wasn’t worth enough score.
The change is that everyone can play how they want, that is what gaijin is trying to do and redesigning the entire gameplay of the game is how you achieve that, dumbed down to “redesign the whole mission layout and AI behaviour” or not. Is it too good for you to believe that addressing the root issue of a problem can fix the problem?
there aren’t issues with how it is implemented, just how its balanced. At least that’s the feedback I can garner. most peoples issues with the implementation is queue times that both haven’t affected me much and gaijin is working on, and the fact bases respawn, but I believe they only respawn when a convoy reaches them, and then they respawn convoys. There is more going on there than what people give credit for.
and once again, its only ass because the sams are overtuned, which will be changed, there wasn’t an issue day one with sams other than people who have no idea how to sead lol.
