I are on a match rn trying to bomb things but is imposible
A OSA destroyed all my bombs the event is garbage
The event is a test, so they’re tweaking as they go
Gaijin’s attempt at balancing the gamemode by nerfing A2A kills to influence people to CAS/SEAD/A2G more is a nice notion. However, given how genuinely unfair the AI SPAAs, SAM sites, and lock radius of enemies are, it is just disgustingly difficult to do anything in this mode.
First off, SEAD. Holy smokes, it is so damn difficult to find a way to do it. Any of the Patriot or Osa sites are a stones throw away from airbases, so you have to contend with airbase AA. Then, you have to launch your Anti Radiation Missiles and hope they don’t get intercepted. Then, deal with the gun AA or MACLOS missile AA. And that’s provided you don’t get spotted by a passerby who just spawned in. It takes ages to get to any of the batteries in the given ground attack aircraft (Frogfoot, Warthog, Corsair II). The Fencer can work, but then you have to deal with a decreased ground loadout, Aardvarks too.
I predominantly play USSR, since trying to find a queue for the USA is pretty difficult. FlaRakPz and their Roland 2s have a 50/50 chance I’ll die to a missile I can see as opposed to a missile I’ve never seen. I legitimately look around, see a Roland heading my way and evade. I then get beamed by a missile that doesn’t even pop up on RWR, doesn’t have a visible warning, and doesn’t exist until it smashes into my aircraft. Afterwards I’ll go through the server replay and it has the same spontaneity as low tier base AA, you just evaporate. HAWK radar warnings pop up every so often, track through ground, and sometimes don’t even pop up on RWR.
However I played one match. One. With the US. Osas are straight up just dominating everything. You can’t get close, you can’t get far, you can only hope to get sorta near a base and hope to bomb toss.
Also, I get it’s also an attempt to influence CAS gameplay, but how do the “attacking convoys” that take over fuel sites and what not manage to use the weapons? I didn’t know that these American soldiers knew the Cyrillic alphabet and Russian language (American invaders can take over Strelas and Osas)? Or that Russian soldiers know the Latin alphabet and English AND German words (Russian invaders can takeover Rolands and Gepards)?
Not to mention the interceptor issue on bombers. It used to take about 20 some odd airkills (provided you didn’t spawn any of the 5kt or 12.5kt nuke aircraft) to spawn a Bear or a BUFF. And there’s a 50/50 chance that you have interceptors that have already spawned in and are just waiting. I’m guilty of it. I killed four B-52Hs in a single game, in the span of about 15 minutes. (Before you throw any shade, we were neck and neck and I don’t believe in Hail Marys. If we were already losing, I let them bomb to get it over with.) There was nothing they could do.
• Add an idea similar to Arcade Ground Battles where if a Nuke spawns, players with sufficient SP can press something like 9 and assist the B-52/Tu-95s, making interception of a nuke aircraft a lot more realistic. Or something like Ground Battles where if enemies linger too close to their main base for too long, they get broadcasted on the minimap so bombers know they’ll be in a contested airspace.
It’s genuinely a fun event, or at least was, until Gaijin, in the name of balance, nerfed things to make it more difficult to use the common playstyles to get Mission reward points.
They messed test with typical point based event because it makes people focused on selfish grind. They should make event wind based to make people teamplay for the win.
Exact same happened to me. I was cruising 2m above the water and hugging the coastline. Wasnt pinged once in around 5 mins. No lock. No launch. Nothing. A missile just came out of nowhere and got me. The AAs can lock through the ground. Even the Osas with their garbage radar can somehow lock through trees and prefire missiles even when you are below their line of sight (below a ridge line).
Yeah, but its a terrible time to change the event. They could prolong the event with the new changes.
I disagree, the change seem to have been pretty positive for gameplay loop, strat bombers arent being instaspawned when escalation 3 is hit and im seeing a lot more people try to ground pound. If their goal with this event was a more engaging gamemode, this change is in the right direction and at a good time.
Case in point, my latest match:
a positive that only is because fighters are getting hit, but it still remains that the core issue of unbearable SPAA and SAM hasnt been fixed at all, so encouraging a gameplay loop, that the event is supposed to be made for, thats unbalanced and not fair is just silly
i cant disagree more. at curent state no one would play this shit. i am on a brink of giving up on the planes it is so bad
I just suffer and suffer I will Skip the event man is just too much I want the stupid planes but is just too much they made me abandon the event with the last patch
I genuinely disagree with the repeated claims the SPAA are unbearable. I dont think enough people have bothered interacting with them long enough to learn what they can and cant do and how to deal with them.
- SHORAD systems like Osa/Roland can easily be dealt with by people using ARMs properly
- HAWK/Patriot can easily be dealt with using ARMs properly as well
- Buk/S-300 can be dealt with (with some difficulty) using conventional bombs, or easily with 5kT nukes
- Knowing which AA positions respawn vs which don’t allows you to strategize and permanently soften the AA in a sector to make all future ground strike missions in the region easier.
Very few people are playing SEAD, and even fewer are bothering to learn, instead preferring to just whine about the AA being too strong. The AA does have some issues (the recent slight change in positions have compressed the lines a bit, which makes SEAD more necessary than prior to the patch), but people choosing not to learn doesn’t mean the AA is OP. Any weaker than they are right now and they’d be a joke to anyone who spent time actually learning to interact with them quite frankly.
Gaijin have fixed what they had to fix, they removed peoples ability to get rewarded fairly for their gameplay lmao
you cannot permanently soften AA in a location as the matches are so short that once you do, the match is over with no benefit to be gained from it
“Rewarded fairly for their gameplay”
Looks at their “gameplay” → flying face first into each other down the middle of the map the entire game, suiciding into the enemy airfield AA, then crying about AA being too strong before they spawn a game ending nuke they got despite having 20+ deaths and no match contribution…
I’m literally killing HAWK batteries (1/4 if I screw up, 2/4 if things go well) on my first sortie, in the first 10min of the game, which has a major impact on AA for 1/3-1/2 of the map. Takes me ~10min. Bit harder on the the US side since the Buk batteries are harder to kill, but yes, you can permanently soften AA in sectors of the map quickly enough for it to have a match impact, its literally just that nobody does it.
Isnt really much else to do when the AA can hit you even when flying below treetop height lol
I spent like 30 minutes killing OSAs in the exact same spot over and over again. They definetly still respawn too fast
First game after the update today… Felt like we get less score but I am not sure if that change or not. This is top tier USSR (13.0) for the event. No one is trying to get the big nuke anymore just CAS.
And what if the real April Fool’s is watching the devs turn a great event into a garbge?
Damnit, I clicked the delete button. It was me who deleted my message. One moment, i screened it so i can redo it.
I think I figured out what changed, mentioned it above. Todays change also moved some of the frontline positions around, generally pushing them closer together, so frontline AA is more dense (the other AA positions have not changed). Because of this, theres more overlap between frontline AA positions and they can support each other better, making proper SEAD more mandatory.
The increase in respawn times for depots and convoys would help, but moving the airfields back has kind of rendered it moot on an individual basis (increase time to sortie + increased respawn time of depots = depots still feel like they respawn around the same time if you’re the only one dealing with that section)
That is a fair point, I just dont want to the AA nerfed in its effectiveness, as I genuinly believe them to be in a good spot, where they are threatening even to experienced players and will punish mistakes, but can be dealt with if approached properly. I think a better change would be reverting the frontline depot and stationary AA sites to their previous positions (I genuinely dont understand why they moved them in) and increasing depot spawn times (probably doubling them) to make it so that you arent playing “whack a depot” with the frontlines.
We’re only ~8 days into this event, majority of people havent had the time to interact with it much, particularly those who have only been doing air to air until this point, so I think its early to have a kneejerk reaction and claim the AA is OP, particularly after this patch (which didn’t actually touch the AA’s capabilities at all, just moved their locations a little).
I welcome all inputs on the situation, but “its too strong” isn’t constructive criticism, it is functionally just complaining without identifying what the issue actually is.
