Nuclear Escalation: Possibility for Sim?

While the Nuclear Escalation game mode is originally intended for and currently tested with Realistic Battles in mind, the mode would also suit Air Sim Battles exceptionally well, and would signify a gigantic leap in attractiveness for Air Sim in War Thunder: It’s almost literally a collection of many suggestions the sim community has voiced over the last years.

However, so far I have seen no official feedback about whether the Development Team also considers adding that game mechanic in a Sim variant, even though that was repeatedly asked by the players in the forum with every iteration of NE tests.

Currently - and since a long time - the Sim EC game mode is in a very strange place, with only little improvement and only rare bug fixes over years, sadly: Maps, missions, targets, assets and AI Units have not been improved (with some rare exceptions like high tier airfield defenses, for example), mechanics available in AB and RB are missing or insufficiently implemented in Sim, and while War Thunder in general has developed massively especially also regarding the modern era, the Sim EC mechanics stagnate.

As a result, Sim community numbers stay low, and within the community frustration about the apparent lack of development is widespread, especially in the light of other game modes seeing such exciting additions like the Nuclear Escalation mechanic discussed here…

In that light, could we kindly ask for an official statement regarding thoughts of adding also Sim variants of Nuclear Escalation?

Is that maybe something that will be expanded upon, once Nuclear Escalation becomes an official Realistic Battle mode?

Oh man, that would be amazing. I’ve got a whole sim-flying setup, but it’s just gathering dust—much like the mod itself, lol. That would breathe new life into the sim.

Even if they just added the map would be the best addition in SIM for Years…

100% yes + the map is big enough for current fox3 missiles

I would be for it, but not in the current state. Not until they address the functionality of ARM missiles for many aircraft and implement the proper support features in the HUD. Currently there’s no way for some aircraft to know what they are tracking and locking the ARM on. This needs to be corrected first before we receive any nuclear version for Sim.

Also, since Sim does not use markers. I would highly suggest an intel aircraft (Ex: E-8 Joint STARS) that monitors ground units. It will mark locations with a red circle if SAM units are detected, and/or when friendly players get engaged by defenses in that area. Just a red circle and that gives you enough intel to know of the danger there. With that intel you can do any role if you wish to hunt and clear that threat.

With also improvements to SPAA missile contrail FX for spotting, and for certain aircraft that historically have support systems regarding “SAM launch warning” lights in the cockpit.

Even an announcement on the future of ASB in general would be nice, so we know what to expect in upcoming updates.

There’s plenty of ASB posts addressing the problems in sim. Bugged lobbies, bugged objectives, the problem with iron doming (MCM), multi-pathing, map sizes, the lack of sim maps, outdated objectives, etc. Implementing bits of Nuclear Escalation to ASB would definitely improve some of these map and objectives issues. But I honestly don’t think Gaijin cares enough to improve or update sim. And if they do, they don’t show it.

an unfortunate truth nuke

Tbh Nuke Thunder fits ASB a lot since it is basically EC except with so much more things to do.

I would absolutely love for Escalation to be added to Sim, but like Termx said it needs refinements to a number of things (especially the bot anti-air targeting,) and changes to work with cockpit-only operations. I do feel like it would be a good alternative to my Combined Arms EC if they added player-operated ground vehicles and helicopters though.

I would be in favour of it being added to the existing lineup of maps that use the EC gamemode.

I need to be clear, I would not be in favour of it as a replacement for EC, as it is a very different style of gameplay that is much more focused on air to ground.

In in my opinion if it was to get added, the AA accuracy would need to be tuned down significantly, as currently it would just be convoy SPAA all over again. In addition to the accuracy, the rate at which they intercept munitions also needs to be tuned down for sim.

Before anyone responds about this behaviour being realistic, I don’t particularly care if the AA accuracy or munition interceptions are realistic. In it’s current state it would be awful to play in sim.

I think it’s best to deploy it in parallel with the current EC mission. This set of mission is quite interesting, but the nuclear bombs are not important. Or in the SB mode, it would be extremely difficult to intercept nuclear vehicles. If nuclear weapons could be eliminated and the mode were changed to one of linear advancement, extending the duration of the battle to be comparable to the current EC, it would be a more suitable task for the SB mode.

I think best would be when certain aspects of the NE mode would be implemented in Sim EC, like the very much more varied, developed and interactive targets, assets, missions.

I think this would need more time however, than to just (even just for testing / proof of concept) take the current NE RB mode, just with no markers and cockpit-only views.

So far we’ve had 3 or even 4 Nuclear Escalation test sessions, and I think also a similar amount of Infantry tests (just to offer another example…). I don’t quite see why not a similar test could be done with sim, just to see how it would roll…

For me I would like to see in Sim is a form of SEAD and Deep Strike events. When we get bigger maps like in NE we can see them. The radar cites from NE I would replace them with the ones from the SEAD and beside regular bases that will be closer to the frontline I would like bases like the ones in Deep Strike Events deep in the enemy territory. But all that is theoretical because the maps we have are extremely small specially for above 10.7 (for me at least) first step would be putting the NE map, then adding the true size Falklands and then personal cope is adding maps like the Full size of Cyprus and Crete that can combine big areas for all this things to be added + more naval stuff as I truly enjoyed it in NE

When was the last time Gaijin speak with a sim community, propose ideas or listen the players? Sim is frozen, only BR maximum to 6.0 or 6.7 is enjoyable enough only if u want to kill another planes and do some dogfights. I like all the ideas players have but where are the devs? when were the last time any dev wants to speak and improve the game mode? First of all call them to join the conversation. I believe gaijin is not even reading the topics about sim mode.
